“Fuck, that was…” I’ve lost the ability to form sentences. I may have also forgotten my own name for a moment. I collapse back into my desk chair, tugging her with me, and hold her tightly in my arms, our bodies still connected as we catch our breaths.

“Perfect. That was perfect, Teddy.” She grins up at me.

I shake my head. “We talked about that nickname. It’s a no.” I try to glare but I’m still coming down from the high of my release.

“You can’t seem to stop calling me Kitten, so I think it’s only fair I get to find an appropriate nickname for you. Theodore, Theo, Teddy, Ted.” She laughs as she teases me, lightly tracing her finger along my neck.

“You are not calling me fucking Ted,” I say as I playfully bite her on the shoulder.

“You’re so growly. Maybe Teddy Bear is a better fit. Or just Bear.” She wiggles her eyebrows as she brainstorms silly nicknames for me. “Although if a bear is the king of the forest, maybe King would be a more appropriate name.”

I kiss her forehead, as I consider that. “Well, that one actually makes sense.”

“How do you figure?”

“If you are my queen, then it’s only appropriate if I’m your king.” Savannah’s small and sweet smile at me calling her my queen is the equivalent of someone putting a billboard up in Times Square for me.

She hums. “King Consort maybe.” She’s accurate, I absolutely serve her. “I’ll think about that one.”

“You do that, Kitten.” And there goes her smile. Her stern look makes me throw my head back and laugh. She playfully hits my shoulder, but I know she isn’t actually mad at the nickname. I think it’s growing on her. Maybe.

I lean down and softly kiss her before pulling back. “Should we go get lunch or should I show you how much this king adores his queen?” Because if we don’t get out of here soon, I’m going to dive into round two, and I don’t think my sister wants to overhear us having sex in my office in the middle of the day any more than I want my sister overhearing us ever. I’m not worried about looking professional, I’m only slightly afraid of my sister’s wrath.

Savannah slides off my lap and adjusts her skirt while I reach for some tissues to clean us up. I’m not very thorough with her and she gives me a look that says she knows exactly what I’m doing. What can I say, I like knowing she’s walking around with a little of me still quite literally with her. Once we are presentable, I unlock the door and guide Savannah out of my office. I think we’re in the clear until I help Savannah into my SUV and close the door. As I round the vehicle to the driver side, I get a text.

Cian

I covered for you, but your sister was curious where the thumping sound was coming from. In case she asks, you were rehanging some artwork in your office.

I laugh at Cian’s random excuse.

Me

And she bought that? That’s not even a good excuse.

Cian

I didn’t ask if she bought my bullshit, mate. Just play cool and go along with it. Or maybe keep it in your pants when people are in the damn building and literally the conference room across the hall. Or hell, buy some artwork to cover it up and make it believable. I don’t care, just get on the same pageas me.

Me

Fair enough. My bad. I owe you.

Cian

I’ll add it to your tab.

I’m laughing when I get back into the car, but I just shake my head, fully intending to not explain Cian’s text. He will be discreet, but Savannah would be mortified. “It’s just Cian, the kid cracks me up.”

Savannah smiles. “That’s nice. I love that you guys are friends in addition to working so well together.”

“Absolutely. He has my back and I have his.” If she only knew how true that statement was.

I thought I was in the clear until we’re pulling up to the restaurant and she pins me with a stare. “So, Cian’s text … did anyone else hear us?”

A loud bark of laughter escapes at her direct question. “No, baby. Cian covered for us. I’m sorry, he didn’t hear us, he just heard … furniture moving a little.” Her eyes widen and a slight blush graces her beautiful face. I lean over and kiss her briefly before reassuring her, “I promise it’s okay, Cian will make sure no one else suspects anything and he has our backs. I’ve gotten him out of stickier situations.”

Savannah shifts in her seat and we both notice, causing us to break out in laughter. “Sticky indeed, Theo. Sticky indeed.”
