And an ever-increasing weight on my chest.

Lucy

Midnight’s eyes glimmer, the blue flaring hot like fire.I smile and slide into her personal space all over again. But this time she welcomes it.All the fury melting into something far more molten.

“What are you doing?”she asks.

She tries to back up but she’s already against the shelving. She knocks several books, a couple of jars and some bone shards off in her vain attempt to escape.

I rise on my tiptoes and bring my lips millimetres from hers.

“Sealing the deal, Midnight, what else?”

“Sealing it how?”

“It won’t hurt a bit… it’s just a kiss.”

“This isn’t a fucking fairytale,” she says. But her words are as weak as her resolve, all of which are fading as fast as the marks she left on my neck.

I plunge my lips onto hers. She goes rigid beneath my touch.

Her lips tingle against mine—magic.I’ve always thought deal creation a strange sensation.Like whispered promises and warm sandy beaches.Like the smell of crackling winter fires and creamy hot chocolate.

Moths materialise around us.Futures, dreams and possibilities dissolve as she commits to another deal and seals her fate.A surge of power runs through my body. It’s intense and electric.Golden energy courses through my body and settles between my legs, in my chest and fingers and mind.So rarely do I make a deal, but gods is the power exquisite.

Something snaps inside me.My hands are everywhere. They skulk up the back of Midnight’s head, my fingers bristling against the neatly shaved hairs. She must sense my need, magic electrifying every nerve in my body—a desperation seeping into my bones. She deepens the kiss.Until finally, I break off.

Our lips are pink and swollen.Midnight’s expression is needy.

“Sorry, I… got carried away,” I say.

Midnight glances at the empty lecture hall.“There’s no one here.”

“I apologise.That was inappropriate.If anyone found us…”

But my body, thrumming with newly formed magic, doesn’t give a flying fuck that we’re in a lecture hall.Or that despite the fact the hall is locked, anyone could unlock it, or the next class could arrive. All my body seems to want is an orgasm.

“Inappropriate, and yet you want more anyway,” she says, a smile lingering in her tone.

“No.That’s…”

“So you don’t want me to fuck you against this bookshelf?”

“Oh, fuck, I—” I have to squeeze my thighs shut and shake my head. But I am well aware my eyes will be betraying me.

Midnight’s lashes flutter at me as she bites her lip.

Fuck, I will regret this.

She lunges for me, and I lose the ability to be rational. My mouth sinks onto hers. She rips my jacket open, her hand slides up my waist, caressing my breasts.Nipping down the side of my neck.

I moan against her.

“More.Need more.”I need everything.Magic flows in every cell and crook of my body.I’m alive in ways I haven’t been for so long. And that is a problem. If I made contracts regularly, I wouldn’t be behaving like a jacked-up teen.

But I don’t.And so here we are.
