Chapter6
HAWK
“Dude. Hey, Hawk! Wake the fuck up, man!”
Rolling over in my sleep, I groan at Wilder—code forget the fuck out of my room.
“What?” I grumble when he physically shakes me.
“Wake up!”
“Why? What do you want, Wilder? It’s the middle of the night. Go away.” I bury deeper under the covers, hoping he’ll just fuck off. Of course, things are never that simple with Wilder and I should have known he wouldn’t just leave me in peace.
“It’s Emilia.”
The sleep clinging to me evaporates like smoke as I snap my eyes open and jump upright.
“What happened? Where is she?”
“There’s this fucker in one of her classes.”
I freeze half out of the bed, torn between driving my fist into Wilder’s face and climbing back under the covers. “Are you fucking kidding me?” I seethe. “This is about some student in her class? Jesus, Wilder. Get your jealousy under control.”
“It’s not about that,” he snaps, his nostrils flaring in irritation. “He was harassing her.”
Not moving, I tilt my head to the side and arch my brows in awell, tell me moreexpression.
“I went to meet up with her after classes ended today, and he was there, making googly eyes at her and calling herMiss Harrison.” His face scrunches up in disgust, saying Emilia’s name in this haughty tone. Still, none of it sounds like a reason to get me out of bed in the middle of the night.
“Well, I imagine all her students call her Miss Harrison. You’re going to be kept busy for the rest of the year if you’re planning on paying all of them an individual nightly visit.”
Wilder snarls at me, but I’m too tired and pissed at him to fucking care.
“You’re not fucking listening to me,” he snaps. Storming closer, he shoves me in the shoulders, immediately getting my hackles up. “She was fucking afraid of him.”
I shove him back, but ask, “What do you mean? Why would she be scared of a student?”
“That’s what I’m trying to fucking tell you. He’s been harassing her for weeks now. I followed him tonight—”
“Of course you did,” I interrupt, muttering under my breath and earning myself a dark glower.
“And he was fucking bragging to his friends about how he was going to bang the hot new English teacher.”
Okay, well, now I’m paying attention and not one bit liking what I’m hearing.
“So what’s your plan here, Wilder? You gonna beat the shit out of him?”
“No,” he says as though I’m being dense. “We’regoing to beat the shit out of him.”
I scoff, shaking my head.
“Why are you involving me in this, Wilder? You’ve made it perfectly clear you’re all about making decisions on your own now.”
His teeth grind in irritation, and when he glances away, I catch the first sign of vulnerability. “I made a fucking mistake, Hawk. Alright? How many times do I have to say that? I’m sorry.” He licks his lips, shuffling awkwardly on his feet. “But you know you’re my bestie, and I wouldn’t do something like this without you.”
I sigh, running my hand through my tousled hair. I can see this for what it is—an olive branch. And despite my inner turmoil, I accept it… for now.
“Fine,” I hiss. “I’ll come with you. Let me just find some clothes first.”
