“Riley.”Oh, she does not sound happy.“Care to explain this letter I received this morning?”
Chewing on my bottom lip, I stare at Logan with wide eyes.
“Since when do you have enough money to hire lawyers?” my mother snaps after a moment.
Of course, that’s her primary concern.
“I had to find the money when you failed to uphold our agreement,” I tell her.
She scoffs, affronted. “You saw your daughter last month, did you not?”
“And it was the first time since starting college, despite our agreement of monthly visits,” I state, calm yet firm. “Not to mention that you’ve been ignoring my calls all month.”
“I do have a life, you know.”
God give me strength.
“We’re less than a week from the end of January. I want to see my daughter.”
“Our agreement stipulated that you’d financially reimburse me for taking care of yourproblem.”
And now I want to murder her.Based on the way Logan is glaring at the phone like he can incinerate it with his eyes alone, he feels the same way.
“When I see my daughter, I will.”
She huffs as though I’m being inconvenient.
“Today is the only day that suits,” she snipes.
My eyes go wide as I look at Logan. He pauses for a second to think before nodding, mouthingthis morningto me.
“Fine. This morning,” I stipulate. “I’ll be there in two hours.” I hang up before she can argue, knowing she’ll be there if only to get her money and to pepper me with questions about how I’m affording a lawyer. With an anxious but excited smile, I turn to Logan, finding him looking just as elated.
“I’m going to see Aurora.”
His grin broadens. “I’mfinally going to see Aurora.”
With that, all of the tension in me dissipates and I fall into his arms with a laugh.

RILEY
“Thank you for driving me.” I place my hand over Logan’s and squeeze it. He flips his over, our fingers interlocking, and I smile at the sweet gesture. “I feel bad, though. Shouldn’t you be practicing or doing some weird pre-game ritual before tonight’s game?”
“Nah. I’ll pop my earbuds in when I get on the bus this afternoon and zone everyone out until I’m on the ice. But, until then, I’m all yours.” His flirty wink sends my stomach flipping and I look away from him as I fail to bite back a smile.
“Are you sure you’re okay staying in the car? I don’t want my mom asking questions or getting her hackles up if she sees you.” I feel awful making him stay out of sight while I spend time with Aurora, but Mom will see his fancy sneakers and expensive jeans, and she’ll justknowhe comes from money. Knowing I have a rich boyfriend would be bad enough, although a rich boyfriend who is willing to spend his money ensuring I get Aurora back… Yeah, that won’t go down well.
I’d rather she knew nothing about him—or Royce and Grayson. Definitely not Grayson. Not that there is anything to know about Grayson, but she doesn’t need to be informed of the fact we’re both attending the same university.
“It’s fine, Shortcake.” It’s his turn to give my hand a reassuring squeeze. “I understand. I’m just excited to see her, even if it’s from a distance. I’m honestly super jealous of Royce getting to lay eyes on her first.”
I huff out a laugh because only Logan could be jealous about something like that.
“I’m excited to see you two together.”
“I can’t wait to spend time with her,” I admit.
