Esmeralda ran for him.
Trevelyan caught her.
He hadn’t been expecting that response to his dire threat. He barely had time to open his arms, before she was throwing herself into them. Her lips found his and she kissed him passionately.
There was half a second of stillness, as Trevelyan tried to process what the hell just happened, and then he was kissing her back. His mouth opened over hers, like he couldn’t get enough. Like he’d been suffocating and she’d just offered him oxygen. Esmeralda wasn’t sure if he’d lifted her or if she’d shimmied up his body, but somehow she was wrapped all around him. Trevelyan held her off the ground.
“You’re kissing me.” He got out, in case she hadn’t noticed.
“I know.” Esmeralda dragged his lips back to hers.
A desperate groan escaped him. His tongue was in her mouth, tasting and demanding. His hands memorized her body, crushing her against him. Dying for her. His grip was so tight that she might just be absorbed straight into his skin. One palm found the back of her neck, his fingers tangling in her hair.
Her hands tugged at his jacket, wanting more.
Trevelyan drew back long enough to help her strip off his shirt. “You said youwouldn’tkiss me.” There was a dazed expression on his face. She’d apparently shocked him out of his anger, at least temporarily. It just went to prove how awesome she was at kissing. “Not until you believed in me.”
“I believe in every single piece of you, Trev.”
“You’re smarter than that.” His eyes drifted shut in pleasure, as she caressed his hair. Then, he seemed to rouse himself. “Are you alright?” He tried to take stock of her body, without putting her down. “Do you have a head injury?”
“No, I…” She gazed at him. “You came after me. I never expected that.”
He looked annoyed by her surprise. “I’m yourmate. Granted, for the first ten minutes I realized you were gone, my thoughts weren’t pleasant. But there was no possible reality where I let you go off and die in the Club Kingdom.”
“Yousaidyou were going to let me go off and die in the Club Kingdom, though.”
“I lied! I’m ninety-eight percent Bad. I say all kinds of shit. Why would you pay any attention to it?” Trevelyan sounded frustrated. “Jesus, you must have seen that I’m violently obsessed with you. Nothing and no one couldeverkeep me away. I would drown Wonderland in blood and fire, until I had you back.”
For a wicked witch, that was poetry. “You could sink the whole damn world and no one could stop you.” She assured him. “It’ssucha turn on.”
For an evil dragon, that was poetry. “Frozen-hells, I missed you, Ez.” His mouth slanted over hers again, hungry and seeking more. Kissing seemed to be a new part of his violent obsession with her, because he didn’t want to stop. Keeping their lips sealed together, he carried her towards the nearest wall. “I’ve been losing my mind without you.”
Esmeralda toed off her not-favorite boots and wound her legs around his hips, needing to be even closer to him. “I was only gone a few hours. You couldn’t have missed methatmuch.”
“You shouldn’t have been gone,at all! I’m fucking pissed at you. I mean it. I’m not…” He lost his train of thought, back to kissing her. He seemed to want to drink her in. His lips worshiped hers, his hand moving to her cheek. He held her face, like he’d die if she slipped away.
Esmeralda sure wasn’t trying to escape. “I’m not getting naked in front of the dead guys.” She somehow got out. “I’m a villain, but I’m notthatBad.”
Trevelyan didn’t even glance towards the yetis’ remains. He just waved a negligent hand and every drop of blood vanished. Esmeralda had no idea where the mangled body parts had gone. She didn’t care. The casual use of dark, deadly power jacked her arousal up even higher.
She whimpered against his mouth. Not kissing him until now had been a huge mistake. The man was incredible at it. He was incredible at everything. His lips slipped down her throat and she did her best to unfasten his belt.
“We need to have a serious talk about your magic.” He pulled back long enough to frown at her. “You are going tohaveto try Good spells. There’s no reason a level six witch couldn’t take out some yetis.”
“I don’t want to perform Good magic.” She complained, even though she suspected he was right. “I was just going to walk right out, without a fight. It would have worked.”
“Just kill your enemies and be done with it.” He shook his head, like he was her disapproving homicide coach. “You’re sure as hell willing to fightmeand I’meight-million times more dangerous than a pack of yetis.”
She kissed his chin. “Not to me, you’re not.”
His forehead rested against hers. “No, my darling. Not to you.” He agreed, breathing in her scent. “You’re the only one I’ve ever wanted to be kind to.”
“And you almostare, some of the time.” She nodded encouragingly.
Trevelyan snorted. “Kindness doesn’t come naturally to me.” He allowed. “Killing things does, though. If you won’t do Good magic, then you need to involve me in your plans, so I canhelpyou. You see that, right?”
“I don’t really do ‘plans.’ I’m just trying to save Marrok. And you said you didn’t want to help me…”
