It made him chuckle, but it was a humorless sound. “Nothingwill stop me from destroying the wolf.” His fingers absently toyed with one of her unruly curls. “Certainly not you. More powerful people than witches have tried to keep me from my goals, yet here I stand.”

She batted his hand away from her hair, which was both annoying and enticing. “Thanks tome.” She insisted again. “You’re standing herethanks to me. BecauseI’myou’re True Love. Doesn’t that mean anything to you?”

He shrugged. “It means you should be loyal.”

“Loyal?” She repeated incredulously. “To you? Why would I be loyal to you, when you’ve been the worst True Love in the world, so far?”

Trevelyan’s jaw ticked. He had been the soul of fucking consideration, as far as he could see. “Have I disappointed you, darling?” He asked softly and anyone else would’ve heeded the warning in his tone.

The witch didn’t budge.

His hunger increased.

“You areincrediblydisappointing.” She assured him. “Too bad for you, I’m the toughest person you’ve ever met. Ideservea happily ever after. Ifoughtfor it and I’m not settling for less. So, I’m not about to let you screw this up for me.” One sparkly fingernail poked at his chest. “Not yet. Not until I’m sure there’snohope, at all.”

Trevelyan stepped even closer to her, crowding her smaller form. “Well then, you’d better start convincing me to keep you.”

She finally noticed his arousal. It was hard to miss. Very hard.

Those perfect lips parted in astonishment, jolted from her tirade. Her eyes jumped from his straining erection, then back up to his face. Generally, Trevelyan found innocence tedious and calculating, but for some reason her shock amused him.

“What are you doing?” She blurted out, like she genuinely didn’t know.

Trevelyan arched a brow. “Lord, tell me you’re notthatGood.”

“No, I mean…” Esmeralda shook her head. “You don’t want to do this. Really.” She swallowed. “It’s just happening because of the True Love match. That’s all. We need tonotfocus on sex. It will just make everything worse.”

She was right, of course. About the True Love part, anyway.

Supposedly Bad folkalwaysfelt overwhelming, automatic, mindless desire when they met their True Love. Trevelyan hadn’t believed that rumor before, but now he was experiencing it himself, so it must be true. The wild pull he felt towards the witch could only be an involuntary mix of chemistry and magic. Obviously. That was the only explanation that made sense. It had nothing to do with Esmeralda as a person and everything to do with his body recognizing hers on a cellular level.

But who cared?

The desire was there and he needed to satisfy it. Carnivores wanted toeat, not discuss the menu. And dragons were definitely carnivorous. Trevelyan had always been a sexual being. He didn’t give a shit about logic or reasons or thoughtful conversation, just being inside of her. Still…

His head tilted, taking in her beautiful, flushed face. “Does it matterwhywe have sex?” He asked, curious as to the source of her outrage. “Aside from the fact that we feel the urge, thanks to fate and biology?”

Her breathing had quickened, her full breasts rising and falling over the top of her tiny shirt. It would’ve taken a better man then Trevelyan to overlook her beaded nipples.

“Yes, it matters!” She snapped. “It matters to me, anyway.”

“Why?”

Her eyes traced over his face, as if she thought he might be joking. He wasn’t. In fact, he felt like he was missing something important and he hated that feeling.

“Because, it’s empty to have sex with someone you don’t like.” She finally said in a quieter voice.

His eyebrows soared, unsure whether to laugh or curse at her naïveté. “That’s it? Jesus, if I only had sex with people Iliked, I’d never have sex, at all.”

And no one in the entire universe had ever likedhim, so that would certainly put a damper on things.

Esmeralda was silent for a beat. “My God…” She whispered. “You have no idea what I’m even talking about. None, at all.”

He shook his head, ignoring that statement. “This pointless morality you’re clinging to is the forty-nine percent Goodness dragging you down. You need to rise above that nonsense.”

Most of her hostility faded and she looked almost sad for him. “Do you understandnothingabout what having a True Love means, Trevelyan?”

He didn’t appreciate the implication thathewas the deficient one in their relationship. “I understand enough.”
