Esmeralda let out an amazed sound. She’d found her True Love.
She’d really found him!
She’d always known she could do it. The very first spell she’d ever cast had been to locate this man and, though it hadn’t given her his GPS position, she’d felt his existence. Her whole life, she’dknownhe was out there. To be staring at him now was nothing short of magical.
Holy shit.
Everybody said Bad folk could just look at their True Love and recognize them. It was apparently true, because she looked at the dozing stranger and sheknewhe belonged to her. Hopefully, he’d know it too, once he opened his eyes.
Why wasn’t he opening his eyes?
“What’s wrong with him?” She demanded, scrambling to her feet, afraid to even take her gaze off of his still form. “What did you do to him? Why is he asleep?”
“He was hit with sleeping gas.” The White Rabbit told her, as if they were discussing the weather. “Only a kiss from his True Love can wake him. It’s why you’re here.”
Bad folk did Bad things. They lived to perpetrate cruel and heartless acts. But, there was one overriding moral imperative that any Bad folk worth their salt followed: They all protected their True Loves.
Esmeralda didn’t even hesitate. Didn’t ask any more questions, because the answers just didn’t matter. No one else even registered with her, now. There was no way she’d let her True Love suffer for even one more second. She headed across the room, her eyes on his slumbering face.
Jesus, she’d hit the jackpot with this guy.
He wasseriouslystunning, with his exotic features and long ebony hair studded with silver beads. It was hard to tell his height, since he was lying down, but he seemed tall and his body was awesomely beautiful. Muscular and broad and… naked.
Wowwas he naked and the view was awe-inspiring.
She stopped by the bed, gaping down at him. Esmeralda would have been thrilled with the man, regardless of what he looked like. He was her True Love, after all. But having agorgeousTrue Love was just adding a cherry on top of her good fortune. He even had a tattoo, covering most of the left side of his massive chest. Esmeralda liked guys with tattoos. She likedeverythingabout this particular guy.
This washerguy.
She was stranded in Wonderlame, and her hair was a disaster, and she was about to be beheaded, but this was still the best day ever!
“I’ve been waiting for you my whole life.” She whispered. Leaning down, she pressed her lips against his.
For a second, nothing happen.
Then, he drew in a sharp breath and she felt him stir. His eyes blinked open, her kiss waking him from his slumber.
Esmeralda eased back, smiling down at him. “Hi.” She said, overwhelmed with happiness and triumph… and lust.
The kiss had only lasted a second, but it still made her insides flutter. His lips had been soft and he tasted like magic. Passion was usually instant and overwhelming between True Loves, but this reaction seemed particularly strong. The man just looked at her and she was already ready to climb on top of him.
Seriously, this guy was perfect!
His gaze locked on hers and recognition lit the vivid green depths. He must have been Bad, which was good! He clearly knew who she was without her having to explain the situation. Astonishment filled his expression. She had the odd feeling that this man didn’t get astonished easily, but for a heartbeat of time he gaped like he couldn’t believe she was really there.
“Hi.” Esmeralda repeated breathlessly. She should think of something better to say. Something clever or memorable or seductive. And she totally would, just as soon as she stopped grinning like an idiot.
“It’s… you.” His deep voice seeped out like smoke.
