“Who you just betrayed!” Trevelyan grabbed onto the doorway to pin him with a venomous look. “What do you think is going to happen, when I get out of here, wolf? What do you think I’m going to do to you, if I survive?”
Marrok had enough sense to look wary at that threat.
The dwarf guards finally pried Trevelyan away from the door and hustled him down the hallway. One of them kept his hand on Trevelyan’s arm, like he thought it might restrain him. Trevelyan sent the little fucker sailing headfirst into the wall.
The other dwarves jumped away from him, like they’d been scorched. If Trevelyan had his powers theywould’vebeen. He had no tolerance for Snow White’s lackeys or most of the rest of creation.
But he also couldn’t afford to get send down to the dungeon. That would make his escape even harder. He closed his eyes, trying to quiet the dragon inside of him.
“Time for a one-on-one with Dr. Ramona.” One of the guards muttered, still standing back in respectful fear. The dwarves knew to keep their distance from Trevelyan.Everyoneknew to keep their distance from Trevelyan. “You know she always talks to inmates who can’t get along with their cellmates. She’ll want to make sure you two don’t kill each other during the night.”
Trevelyan wouldn’t be there during the night. Dead or free. There were no other options.
He blew out a calming breath, his mind racing. The bomb wouldn’t work. Marrok had ruined that plan. But today was Trevelyan’s birthday. Dragons were strongest on their birthdays. He might not have his magic in the WUB Club, but there was another way to win if he had the strength to endure it.
The idea was repellent. Dirty and disgusting and beneath him, but it was the only way. It made his skin crawl to even consider it, which is why he’d beenrefusingto consider it. Until now, when it was literally life or death. Now, there was no choice.
Trevelyan decided.
He ground his teeth together and blamed the wolf for what was about to happen. Marrok had caused all of this. Oneday, he’d pay. But for now, Trevelyan needed to survive until morning. That was all that mattered.Him.
Trevelyan was all that ever mattered to Trevelyan.
“Afterwards, I want to see Snow White.” Hate swelled within him, even as his resolve strengthened. He could do this. He was a dragon! He could do anything. And then he’d get revenge. “Tell her I’m in the mood for company.”

Present Day
“Is she a Good witch or a Bad witch?”
“She’sBad, of course. No such thing as a Good witch. You saw what she did to Queen Alice, right? Turned her into a log. That sure says Badness to me.”
“You mean a frog?”
“No, alog. With twigs and branches.”
“Why would a witch turn someone into a log?”
“Because she’s frigging Bad, you idiot!”
Esmeralda the wicked witch drummed her perfectly manicured fingernails on the table. Under the glow of the intense spotlight, the holographic polish reflected a dozen colors at once. “Any chance we could hurry this up, fellas? Some of us have lives to live.”
The two playing card guards flashed her identical frowns. They were big, square, flattened creatures with faces built into their bodies and arms like professional wrestlers. They were also seriously pissed that she’d blasted through a bunch of their colleagues with her magic, so they weren’t in the mood to be helpful.
God, Wonderland sucked.
If Esmeralda could just go back and undo the whole “Enspelling Alice” thing, shetotallywould. Sadly, magic didn’t work that way. What’s done was done and the best way forward was to talk to someone in charge. Someone who might listen to her.
