“Do it.Now.” The heel of his palm pressed down, rotating just the tiniest bit and Esmeralda would’ve happily set fire to the world for him.

She felt a rush of heat and flames behind her. She felt her magic overshoot the fireplace opening and engulf the whole wall. She felt more power slam out than she’d intended to use.

…And she felt Trevelyan come harder than he ever had in his life.

She grinned in delight, as his whole body jolted. He made a gasping sound, his hand clenching, trying to hold back. But it was too late. He was a goner. His release wasn’t at all what he’d planned. She could tell, by the sudden shock on his face.

She’d just made the dragon lose all control.

“Ez!” His head went back in a roar of possession, slamming into her with no thought except pleasure. Out of his mind for her. “Fuck.”

His climax triggered her own. Esmeralda screamed, the fire she’d created becoming a whirlwind of flames.

Trevelyan made a helpless sound, watching half the room burn around them. He shuddered, still coming. “Just mine.” It was a whisper of ownership and pride and utter amazement. “My God…” He finally slumped back, his breathing ragged. “You have so much magic.” He let out a groan of renewed lust, as a part of the ceiling fell and crashed to the floor in a flaming heap.

Esmeralda swallowed, tearing her eyes away from his reverent expression to look at the instant remodeling she’d inadvertently done. She wasn’t worried about burning to death. Her powers would never harm her or her True Love. Since Trevelyan didn’t seem in a hurry to extinguish the blaze, she just let it rage.

“I couldn’t control it.” She whispered. “I can never control it.” The game they’d played had been the best her magic had worked since… well… ever.

“Why would you want to control something so beautiful?”

She glanced up at him again.

He smiled, his eyes glowing hotter than the flames. “You’re a force of nature, Esmeralda. I haveneverfelt magic like that before. Your spells want death or freedom, like any other wild thing that won’t be contained.”

Esmeralda blinked, listening to the thick, hot admiration in his voice. She’d been afraid he’d be disappointed in her subpar magical skills. After all, she’d just set the house on fire, trying to light a couple of logs in a fireplace. Instead, he seemed rapturous over the flaming chaos. “Death or freedom?”

“Yes!No onehas magic like yours. It’severywhere. Something so big can never be chained. You just have to let it go and believe.”

“Since when do you believe in believing?”

“Since I met my mate.” Trevelyan’s hand slipped between her legs, feeling the combination of the slick juices. When his whole palm was saturated, he pressed it down right over her heart. “Mate.” He repeated quietly, with a new and serious inflection in his tone.

Their combined scents coated her skin and she had the feeling it was some dragon-y ritual. It made her a little nervous, because Trevelyan was a wild creature, too. And she wasn’t sure he could ever be tamed… but she also didn’t tell him to stop.

He tilted his forehead down to rest against the handprint he’d left on her chest, as if he was savoring it. “You said you would only sleep with someone you liked.” He reminded her after a long moment.

“Yep.”

He was silent, like he wanted to say more, but he didn’t know how.

Esmeralda was feeling generous with the big dummy. “I also said I likedyou, dragon. …Most of the time. I guess this proves it.”

Green eyes found hers, searching.

Esmeralda smiled at him again.

Trevelyan drew in a deep breath that expanded his chest and he slowly smiled back. “Youshouldlike me.” He decided, sounding more like himself. “Our interests align. That’s the basis for any great dynasty.”

“Uh-huh.” Esmeralda concentrated on the way he unconsciously stroked her skin and hair, like he just couldn’t stop.

“Together, we have the strongest, darkest magic anywhere.” He went on, oblivious to the gentle movement of his palms. “Our children canrulethis world. Do you see that?”

“Sure… Unless you take it over yourself, first.”

Trevelyan gave a chuckle. “My parents would have liked you, even though you don’t want to join the Green Dragon line. They would have enjoyed your fathomless magic and your inner fire.”

Her smile faded a bit at his words. “I never said I wouldn’t join your line. You said Icouldn’t.”
