“Don’t go easy on me anymore.” She took my face between her hands. “I want you to unleash every dark and dirty thought you have on me.”

“I love you.” Those words had to be the most meaningful confession I had ever made, but they were truer than anything I had ever spoken.

“I love you too.” She gently kissed me. “I’ll do anything for you.”

I peered into her eyes when more than just the clarity of the moment came rushing back to my senses. What thefuck?I shook my head, trying to stop the memory, but it was too loud for me to block.

“I can’t letyou hurt Chance.” The certainty in her voice enraged me. After everything I had done for her, this was how she wanted to play this? “If anything happens to him because of you, I’ll never forgive you.”

“I guess we’re at an impasse.” Didn’t I mean something to her? “You have a choice to make.”

“We were fighting.”I rolled off her and sat up, processing as the memories of earlier in the day pushed to the surface. “We argued about Chance.”

“We did.” She got up on her knees and moved behind me. “You were being unreasonable, and I…”

“I wasn’t supposed to meet you here.”Ah, fuck.“Why did you let me think I was meeting you here?”

“You were hurt and I didn’t want to overwhelm you.”

“So you let me believe everything was fine between us?” I got up off the floor and grabbed my pants. “I came after you. That’s why I was so determined to get to you.”

She tugged her sweatshirt over her head as I frantically pulled my damp pants over my legs. When I looked up, she had her sweatpants on. Where did she get those clothes? How long had she plotted to run from me?

“Milo.” She moved toward me. “You have to let me explain.”

“Whose cabin is this?”

“It belongs to Romeo, but it’s not what you think.”

“It can’t be any worse than what I think.” I glared at her. “You left me and sought protection from my enemy, andthen when I came after you… shit, you let me fuck you. What’s wrong with you?”

“No, that’s not what happened.” She reached for me. “Chance, he…”

“I don’t want fucking excuses!”

I tugged out of her grasp and backed away, holding my hand up as a warning for her to stay away from me. The rage physically burned my insides. Her betrayal cut far deeper than any pain my enemies could inflict on me. But she should be prepared, because my revenge would be swift and lethal.

“You’re always going to choose Chance over me.”

Tellhim the truth and he’ll understand. That was the only way to make this right.

“I am choosing you.” The desperation in my voice startled me. It wasn’t just our relationship I had to fight for. I had to save my brother’s life. “I’ll always choose you.”

“Don’t lie to me.” Milo zipped and buttoned his pants as if he would be able to walk out on me in a storm. “What the fuck are we doing in the woods in a cabin owned by Bello?”

“You were right when you said Chance was working with him.” I had to put it all out there. It was never my intention to lie to Milo. “He did bring him information about you.”

“What part did you play in that?”

“What do you mean?”

“Did this set-up start on New Year’s Eve? Was I the mark from the beginning?”

“What are you talking about?” That accident really rattled his brain. If we weren’t stuck out here, I would have insisted he go to the hospital. “I didn’t set you up. I could never do that to you.”
