The party was still in full swing, as it would be until midnight and beyond. Only Peter noticed a lot more eyes following him as they walked. Many of them were werewolves of some variety.

It was so distracting that Peter almost didn’t notice how confidently Draven was leading them in the right direction.

Peter lived on the other side of the creepy forest. It was a pain, because Peter always had to give it a wide berth to get to the rest of campus. But how did Draven know that?

“You know where I live?”

Draven side-eyed Peter and said, “Does that scare you?”

“Um, maybe, depends why.”

Fuck, should Peter be running for the hills?

Something odd was happening tonight. Something dangerous. And Draven was involved somehow.

And yet… despite how frightening Draven had been a minute ago, here he was making sure Peter got home safe. Once again, here was the person Peter loved spending time with.

“You’ll forgive me if I did it for my own safety?”

“You were- what? Worried aboutme?”

The thought was inconceivable.

“After our first time together, I had to know more. You responded so beautifully to me. And your taste,” Draven let out a familiar sigh of bliss. “Nothing compared. I confess, I couldn’t get you out of my head.”

Oh good, the feeling had been mutual.

“But first I had to know if you were safe.”

What in the world could Draven have been worried about? Peter had never hurt anyone in his life!

Draven smiled that small, secret smile Peter loved so much.

“It must seem strange to you. Let’s just say, not everyone takes my eccentricities as well as you did.”

“Huh.” It was hard to imagine. “Wait, were you stalking me?”

“Stalk is a strong word,” Draven said. “I did my research. Are you trying to claim you didn’t do the same?”

Peter opened his mouth to deny it, then remembered the hours and hours he’d scoured the internet for information on Draven.

“Besides, I only ever made myself available. You were the one who came to me. Every time.”

So ithadn’tbeen a coincidence! He’d been right!

As they walked and talked, Draven led Peter away from the party and along the edge of the forest. Closer than Peter liked, but it was Halloween. The forest was inviting on this one night of the year.

And then Draven turned down the gravel path that cut through the forest. A path Peter had never taken no matter how late to class going around made him.

“Uh, where are we going?”

“This way is faster.”

“We can’t cut through the forest, it’s not safe!”

Draven glanced behind them.

“Trust me, you’ll be safe as long as you’re with me.”
