"Not here," I said as I flipped the sink on, quickly washing my hands. "I don't want a quick fuck, Jillian. I want to savor you, and I can't do that here."

She slowly nodded, but then her eyes widened as she seemed to realize what I was hinting at. "Oh." She looked stunned.

I grabbed her underwear and helped her slide them back on. I then fixed the top of her dress, making her look like she had a few moments ago. She swallowed as I offered her a hand, pulling her off the counter.

I grabbed her hand, taking her out of the bathroom and into the hallway. But instead of going back to the party, I took her towards the front and through the front doors to the parking lot.

"What about the party? What did you mean when you said you took care of it?"

"I asked the guys to handle it. I said I could tell there was a shift, and you had a headache."

"So, you lied?"

I smirked. "Not entirely. I could sense a shift in your mood. The headache part was made up."

She looked at me, a little surprised. "You could tell?"

I nodded, turning the ring on her hand. "The bond."

"Why can't I ever feel anything from you?"

I opened the car door on her side, and she leaned on the door for a moment, the question seeming to make her pause. "Do you have emotions?"

I snorted, hooking her chin. "I have emotions, Jillian. I'm just good at keeping them under control."

"Is that your way of saying I'll never feel them from you?"

I didn't know. It wasn't like I could tell when Jillian was sad or happy. It was just a tug, a feeling that she wasn't okay.

"No, you will. We've only had the bond for a short time. It's new."

She seemed to accept that answer and got into the car. I rounded it, timing my spot in the driver's seat, and turned the car to life. Jillian leaned against the seat and looked at me as I pulled us out of the parking lot.

"I'm on birth control."

I glanced at her, a little surprised. "You are?"

She nodded. "Yeah, I had terrible periods growing up, so I got on it to help with them. I've also had a few relationships in the past and wanted to make sure I was safe."

I understood why she was bringing this up. "Do you want kids?"

She remained quiet for a moment before she nodded. "I do."

"Are you going to stay on it?"

She tilted her head at me. "Do you want me to get off of it?"

I shook my head. "That is not for me to decide."

"Our marriage was made so you could have a child."

I cringed. "Yeah, well…. that doesn't matter to me."

She gave me a shocked expression. "Oh my god, Maddox, did I just hear you go against what the Council wants?"

I snorted. "You know what I mean, smartass."

She played with her dress. "I want to be secure in a relationship before I bring children into it. My parents had a beautiful marriage, and I couldn't imagine having children in anything but that."
