The line went dead. I tossed the phone back onto the console, my heart pounding in my ears.

Zoey was staring at me, her eyes wide and frightened. “Noah… what have you done?”

“What I had to. What I’ve been trying to do since I became alpha.” I took her hand and brought it to my lips. “I meant what I said. I’m going to be the man in your life, in Ro’s life. And George? He won’t be missed.”

Reluctantly, I let go of her hand and grabbed my phone, calling Chief Warman. He answered on the second ring.

“Pete, it’s Noah. George just made contact with Zoey. Can you meet us at my place and take her statement to update her complaint? I’m going to call her lawyer as well. This ends now.” I glanced at Zoey, my gaze fierce and determined. “I won’t let him hurt my family again.”

ZOEY

Isat on the couch, picking at a loose thread on the hem of my shirt. Noah squeezed my shoulder reassuringly before he went to answer the door.

Chief Warman stepped inside, his uniform crisp and his face serious. “Zoey. I’m here to take your statements about the call you received.”

“He called from an unknown number,” I said. “Said he was coming for me.”

“Can you remember his exact words?” Chief Warman pulled out a notepad.

I closed my eyes, George’s threatening voice echoing in my mind.“We will be together. You belong to me.”Fighting back nausea, I forced myself to repeat his threat, adding, “He said something about how he’d reclaim his property, and if he saw Noah, he was going to finish the job.”

Noah settled in beside me, and I found comfort in his presence.

“I’ll add this to your report,” the chief said as he jotted down notes. “If you can give me the number, we might be able to findout where he called from. Even if it’s a burner phone, there’s a chance we can trace it and find where he’s hiding.”

I read the number from my call history. Could this finally lead to a clue about George’s whereabouts?

Chief Warman looked at me, his eyes radiating with sympathy. “I can’t make any promises, but it’s a start. I also suggest recording any future calls in case he reaches out again.”

“We will. Thank you.” Noah’s jaw was tight, but he flashed me a reassuring smile.

Chief Warman stood up. “I’ll be in touch with any updates. And I have your lawyer’s number. I’ll make sure she’s informed about what happened today.”

After a few more words, Chief Warman headed to the door. I sagged against the couch as it closed behind him. Dealing with anything related to George always left me feeling hollow, exhausted, and terrified.

Noah wrapped his arm around my shoulders. “It’s going to be okay. We’re going to get through this.”

I leaned into him, trying to draw strength from his warmth and steadiness. “I know. It’s just... it feels like he’s always there, lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike.”

“He can’t hurt you anymore. I won’t let him.”

I managed a small smile. “I believe you, but it’s hard not to worry, you know?”

Noah nodded, his blue eyes filled with understanding. “I get it. But we’re doing everything we can to keep you and Ro safe. Chief Warman is on the case, and we’ve got a solid support system here.”

He was right, but the fear still lingered, an icy presence in my gut. Would I ever truly feel at peace again?

As if sensing my turbulent thoughts, Noah’s hold on me tightened, his strong arms enveloping me in a cocoon of safetyand love. I buried my face in his chest, breathing in his comforting scent.

We stayed like that for a long moment, just holding each other, drawing strength from our connection. As long as I had Noah by my side, I could face anything, even the looming threat of George.

But deep down, I also knew that true peace would only come when George was no longer a danger, when I could finally stop looking over my shoulder and jumping at every sound. Until then, all we could do was stay vigilant, stay strong, and lean on each other for support.

I woketo the sound of Ro grumbling and complaining from his bedroom. Glancing at the clock, I realized it was late afternoon. Noah and I had dozed off on the couch.

“What’s wrong, buddy?” I asked as I entered Ro’s room. He was sitting up in bed with a scowl on his face.
