“Who is the woman behind all this? I already know she robbed my cousin and took the money. All I need is a name.”

“Am I gonna die?” he whispered under his breath.

“Yes. However, your answers will determine whether it’s quick or painful. It’s up to you.” He nodded his head in understanding. He hesitated, so I stepped closer to him.

“What do you know about what happened?”

“I was telling the truth when I told you I had nothing to do with this. She came to our momma’s house one night with a car that wasn’t hers. She had my brothers bring the bags in the house and told them all of our problems were taken care of. I was still away at school, but I was on the phone with my brother when it happened. She said she hit a lick, and we were up.” He shrugged his shoulders, wiping the tears from his eyes.

“Where does she live?”

“She was staying over there at the Woodbury apartments, but I believe she moved somewhere else. She has a boyfriend named Reece or Remi who stays in the hills, but I don’t know where specifically.” She must have told them her and Remi were together, which further confirms we had the right person.

“She got a job?”

“Not anymore. She used to work at Rackzz, but she quit after the money came in.” When he mentioned the name of the club, I frowned. That was the club Duke co-owned.

“Who is she to you? What’s her name?” His eyes locked with mine, and I could tell he was afraid I would kill him as soon as I got the information I needed.

“Answer me, mothafucka!” I roared, getting impatient with all this back and forth. He was pulling back as his eyes filled with regret.

“I’ve already said too much. Just go ahead and kill me so I can be with my family.”

“I should be upset, but I kind of respect your stance. You want to die with a little bit of honor so your family doesn’t look at you like a bitch when you all meet up in hell. You gave me enough to work with, so I’ll still make sure they give you a homegoing fit for a king. Well, that’s if you have any family left after I’m done with them.” One bullet to the dome silenced him for life. Ammo and the others got to work to discard the bodies.

“Take them back to their house and set the bitch on fire. Make it look like a robbery gone wrong.” I walked out of the room and into the shower area. I promised my girl I would take her to see some lame ass movie at the park. Juicy had been real distant lately and it made me worry. I tried to pick her brain, but she swore nothing was going on.

I might have let it go if it wasn’t for the fact that she kept avoiding my touch. Juicy was normally the type to climb in my skin at night, but for the last few days she had been damn near on the floor from how close to the edge she was. While I may not be an expert on women, I was very well versed on body language. Either I fucked up somewhere along the lines, or she was hiding something from me.

After I got out the shower, I dried off and tossed on some sweats. I would get dressed once I made it home. I tossed my duffel bag over my shoulder as I headed out to the car. When I stepped outside, I noticed Huncho waiting by my car smoking a cigarette. He wore the same blank expression as Pure when it came to handling business. He talked more than my brother but the two of them possessed similar personality traits.

“You good? What you still doing here?” I inquired as I tossed my bag into the back seat. The way my body felt, I would have much rather stayed home tonight, but I had to push through.

“You know I don’t ever leave until you leave. Plus, Ammo and nem are still tying up some loose ends,” he replied, tossing the remnants of the cigarette onto the ground before he smashed it with his foot.

“I appreciate it. Although I keep telling you that you don’t need to wait on me. Ain’t nobody crazy enough to sneak me, and if they were, I stay trained to go.”

“I hear you, Grim, but it ain’t just about you being capable. I take my job seriously, and in order for me to sleep good at night, I gotta see the shit through myself. You might be good on your own, but I’m still doing my job.” I respected his stance, so I didn’t bother to argue with him. Hell, I had enough battles to fight, so I would leave this one alone.

“Do you want me to hit up the club tomorrow to see if we can get more information?”

“Naw, I want to handle it myself. Duke co-owns the place, so I’m gonna see if we can get access to the security tapes or something. If not, I’m sure one of those women won’t mind telling me what I want to know if the price is right.” He nodded while I searched for my lighter. I needed a blunt in the worst way.

“Come on,Juicy. You’ve had plenty of time to get dressed, girl.” Soul fussed as I sat at my vanity in my bra and underwear. He walked into the room, and I turned my head to observe him. He looked so handsome, even though he was only dressed in a black and white polo and some black jeans. His hair was freshly cut, and the diamond earrings he wore sparkled under the light.

“Damn, you’re fine as hell. You got a girlfriend?” I flirted. Soul couldn’t help but smile as he stepped closer to me. I puckered my lips out for him to kiss, and he leaned down to meet me halfway.

“I have a woman, but she’s about to get left behind if she doesn’t hurry her ass up.” His lips smashed against mine onemore time before he turned to walk over to his dresser to grab his watch.

“I’ll be ready in ten minutes, babe. I’m putting on my setting spray, then all I have to do is throw on my clothes.” Soul stood behind me, and I could see his facial expression in the mirror.

“Now I know you’re lying. Over here sounding like the Asian lady at Happy House whenever we ask how long the food is gonna take. You have fifteen minutes, Juicy. Otherwise, I’m leaving you, and you’re gonna have to drive yourself to the party. My nana doesn’t play about her birthday, and she will cuss us both out if we’re late.”

“Okay, baby. Have a little faith in me.” I giggled after I said those words, and he threw his hands up in defeat. I was always late to every function I went to, but I would try my hardest not to be late to this one. I knew how important this day was.

“I’ll be downstairs,” Soul grumbled as he stood in the doorway.

“I can’t believe you’re acting like this. I’m not gonna be late. I promise.”
