Love.
Love?
She vibrates in my embrace, my arms now snaking around her as my body shatters in tandem. Out of eight billion people, I don’t just get to hold my person in my arms. I get to hold my destiny.
A purpose.
A reason.
The cluster of stars that I prayed upon assembles with hers. A colossal clash of dust and gas, whirling a galaxy only me and her can navigate.
It’s something more prestigious than love.
As I clutch onto her, my fingers brand the soft flesh of her curves knowing that she is forever mine.
And I am irrevocably hers.
My back hits the wool of the blanket again, her scrambled hair draping around my face as she smirks against my lips. Our fused torsos chafe through a salty layer of sweat, the smell of sex potent through the living room as we descend from the pleasured cloud.
My palms frame her face, making sure her green eyes lock with mine. “I’d munch on your sweet cunt for every meal, and if I’m being completely honest here?”
Her eyes hood with trepidation. “Uh oh.”
“I’d feast on your ass too.”
Her mouth yanks open, her hand slapping my sticky chest. “Cade Owens! Ew, gross.”
I brush her bottom lip with the pad of my thumb, a small grin teasing my lips. “I think you’d like it. In fact, Iknowyou’d love it.”
A breath blows from her as she lays her damp temple on my chest. “Okay, maybe a little bit. Like a lick or two.”
My chest rumbles through a laugh, my hands sifting through her locks as I place a kiss to the top of her head. Her floral scent transports into my veins, and her fingers skate into the hair at the back of my neck as we sink into each other.
“You want to know something?” she murmurs, exhaustion lacing her voice.
“What?”
“I’ve really never felt more beautiful than I do right now. As sticky, sweaty, and messy as I am.”
My lungs flood with oxygen, a flurry of warmth springing in my stomach as my fingers curl in her hair. “The only way you’d ever feel differently is when my heart stops beating, Olivia,” I say. “As long as it beats, it’s impossible for you to feel less than. Can you hear it?”
She nods her cheek against my pec, her lips flexing into a smile against my skin. “Yeah, I hear it. Always,” she whispers. “Your heartbeat might just be my favorite song.”
Chapter 44
Olivia
The hissing of the streaming water filters through the ceiling of Cade’s powder room. I unclasp the claw clip in my hair, letting my damp tendrils fall over the section that’s already blow dried.
I comb my curling brush through a wet layer, sliding the hair dryer vent over it with my free hand. The heat coats my fist, only to hit the neckline of my lilac crop top.
As I observe my reflection, my heart dashes with the hurdles Cade and I have cleared. I smile as I briefly peer down, shifting my left ankle until I feel the bobble chain jangle under my baggy jeans.
I’d say there are at least thousands of people who deserve a granted wish before me. But maybe that’s the unique thing about fate. It’s arranged when we least expect it, and tethered to someone or something we couldn’t have dreamed ourselves.
I click the blow dryer off before unplugging it and exiting the bathroom. As I journey up the wood stairs, the running waterof the shower has been replaced with the faucet of the ensuite bathroom.
When I enter Cade’s bedroom, I plop the hair dryer in my duffle sitting in the corner. Assuming Cade’s brushing his teeth, I pluck my face lotion from the side pocket of my bag and squirt some in my palm. I smush the creamy substance between my hands, standing up to lather my cheeks and neck as I wander aimlessly around the bed.
