“If you’re coherent enough to argue, I’ve got work to do,” he declared with a twist of his fingers, drawing a breathy gasp from me. His lips quirked smugly. “It hasn’t escaped me that we’re doing this on the side of the road, Dove. Believe me, there’s nothing I’d like more than to take my time; to draw out everysigh and moan I know is locked up inside you, especially while I’ve got you spread out beneath me, but we’ve been lucky so far. There’s bound to be someone that’ll pass by soon.” His voice lowered into a smooth and seductive purr, “So, let’s get you there, sweetheart.”

He pressed a kiss to my stomach, which, despite everything we’d done already, despite his fingers currentlyinside me,had me turning red-faced from the sweet gesture.

“We can wait,” I forced myself to say the words, hating myself for even suggesting it. “Until we’re back home?—”

“No,” he answered bluntly before hunching down to lick a broad swipe across my clit, causing me to quake beneath him.

“Fuck,” I breathed, the word slipping out as Josh’s tongue and fingers resumed their assault. All arguments left me as he continued wringing pleasure out of me effortlessly, as if we’d been doing this for years, instead of only a handful of days.

Josh stoked that white hot fire within me with every swipe of his tongue, making my hands scramble for purchase. One found the seat, nails digging into the cushion with force that had the aged vinyl creaking in protest while the other buried into his overgrown hair, threading into the long strands at the nape of his neck just as he did something with his tongue that drew a too-loud moan from me.

My legs spasmed, clamping around his wide, muscled body as my hand pressed him closer between my thighs. I wanted to tell him not to move, not to stop, to keep goingjust like that, but words escaped me. Instead, I cried the only one I could remember: “Josh!”

“I’ve got you,” Josh mumbled encouragingly against me, seeming to understand what I couldn’t articulate. “I’ve got you.”

His fingers never stopped their rhythm, rubbing that spot inside me that had me trembling, head thrown back against the seat, but still it wasn’t enough. I teetered, stuck on the precipiceof release, needing something I wasn’t able to put into words. But again, it seemed I didn’t need to say anything. Josh read my body better than even I could, knowing exactly what I needed as he fastened his lips around my clit andsucked.

Blackness enveloped me as my eyes clamped shut and over the edge I went, careening into orgasm headfirst. Everything Josh had been building inside me shattered as a wave of pure euphoria encompassed me and I came brilliant and blinding, exploding with all the force of a dying star.

Chest heaving, I lounged languid and loose-limbed back against the seat as I recuperated, still trembling with aftershocks. It seemedeverytime with Josh was going to be intense, even when we were stuck on the side of a back road in an old, rusting truck.

Good to know.

When I could finally breathe again and the tremors had subsided, I peeked my eyes open. They squinted against the harsh rays of the sunlight, which somehow seemed brighter than it had before. When my eyes adjusted, Josh came into focus. He sat back, but his large frame was still hunched awkwardly between my splayed legs, although he didn’t seem to mind if the pleased smile on his glistening lips was anything to go by. My body flashed hot as I realized it was the evidence of what we’d just done casting a sheen across his mouth.

I moved, sitting up so I could scooch back and give him more room. The cab wasn’t small by any means, but it hadn’t exactly been built for these kinds of things. Now that the haze of lust was gone, I was beginning to feel uncomfortably exposed. I squirmed against the seat, noticing how embarrassingly wet I was, something the breeze through the windows reminded me of.

Josh wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, but it did nothing to wipe his grin off. “Worth the risk?” he asked playfully, pride glinting in his eyes.

My lips twitched involuntarily into a smile. This side of Josh was new to me. The intimate side only past lovers and girlfriends had seen. Seeing it thrilled me, and I wondered what other parts of Josh I had yet to learn and discover. While I knew him better than most, there were parts of him I hadn’t been privileged to know. But now I was slowly becoming acquainted to every facet of Josh, and it did nothing to help stop the freefall I was in when it came to my feelings for him.

Over the sounds of the wind blowing through the trees and the birds singing came the distant sound of a rumbling engine. The approaching noise had my reply dying in my throat as my heart rate skyrocketed and fear trickled through me, turning the heat left over from Josh and his ministrations into icy, cold dread. Josh’s alarmed eyes met mine before we both turned to see a truck heading our way in the distance.

“Shit,” Josh and I cursed in unison.

We flew into action, our hands colliding as we both reached for my shorts.

“Josh,” I bit out as his hands got in the way. “I can manage to put on my own clothes. Why don’t you—” I tried to move my leg from around him furtively, so I didn’t end up flashing whoever was coming towards us, as I shimmied my underwear up over my hips, “—get out so this doesn’t look—” I trailed off, searching for a word, but my thoughts were too jumbled with panic at the thought of being caught.

Josh’s eyebrows raised, waiting for me to explain what this could possibly look like.

“Suspicious,” I settled on, holding in a wince as the word left my mouth. What I really wanted to say wasincriminating. As ifwe were two thieves sleuthing around someone’s property and not just a couple enjoying a quickie on the side of the road.

Indecent exposure is a crime too,my unhelpful inner voice supplied somewhat hysterically.

“Us being in a truck together isn’tsuspicious,Dove,” Josh argued, but he turned, opening the door so he could hop out and give me more room to hurriedly redress.

“It does when you look likethat,” I muttered, gesturing to his disheveled hair, and swollen, red lips. My hand traveled to my throat, which stung from the chafe of beard burn and biting kisses. I frowned, realizing I likely didn’t look much better.

He closed the door behind himself with a soft thud, then bent down to inspect his reflection in the side mirror, cursing under his breath at what he saw.

Once my shorts were buttoned, I ran fingers through my hair discreetly. There wasn’t much hope for the flush I could still feel over my skin, but that could easily be blamed on the heat. I leaned against my door casually, one elbow out the window, attempting to look like someone who hadn’t just experienced a mind-blowing orgasm at the hands and mouth of her stepbrother.

Maybe it would be Carl, the local drunk, too far gone to remember, on his way from one bar to the next. If we were really lucky it would be someone not from around here, just traveling through Haven, not sparing us a second glance as they passed.

Doubtful, but still, I hoped.

Those hopes were crushed as I instantly recognized the vehicle approaching. “That’s Torrence’s truck.”
