"Get away from me," She said, reaching into her purse.
"That's not an option, Greta. It's my mission. So, come quietly."
"I told you, I'm not Greta!" She shouted.
Was lying the best defense she had? I lunged forward, grabbing her forearm.
The female let out a high pitched shriek and pulled a small can from her purse. It sprayed a liquid right into my eyes.
For a second I was confused, then my entire face started burning. I groaned, releasing the human and clutching my face. It was worse than Saturn Snail venom. My eyes started watering uncontrollably. I couldn't see.
"I warned you! Stay back!" She said. Her voice was farther away now.
I couldn't stand the burning. I twisted the ring and let the human shield fall, revealing my true self to her. Through the burning tears, I saw her face twist from anger to terror.
"I told you, Greta, you're coming with me." I grabbed her wrist with one hand and forced her to drop the can of burning spray.
"Let me go!" She screamed.
If I didn't get out of here fast, we'd be found. The last thing I needed was for the human authorities to show up.
I sucked in a breath, pulled the flailing human close to me, and pressed the button on my belt. We teleported away with a flash.
Part one of the mission was complete.
Now I just needed to get her back to the Mars station.
CHAPTER FOUR
- LOLA -
I GOT fired. Me! Fired! Greta Yurt had really fired me. After years of doing dangerous stunts for her, she hadn't even bothered to say goodbye.
All I wanted to do was drown my sorrow in red wine and ice cream. In fact, that was my plan for the entire weekend until that giant guy showed up.
Guy? I mean alien.
One second he was looking like a weird fan, then he transformed into a giant teal-colored humanoid creature. I didn't have a second to think before he grabbed me, and we teleported to what I could only guess was some sort of spacecraft.
It was a small oval-shaped container with three seats and no windows. A black screen was where a windshield would be, above a control panel of flashing lights. This was no cheesy sci-fi scenery -- this was real.
"What the hell is going on?" I screamed.
My stomach twisted and my head spun. I found my legs giving out from underneath me and suddenly I was on the floor. It was cold and shiny like chrome.
"Relax, human," The alien said.
Then I noticed his mouth wasn't moving in the same way he was talking. It was almost like watching a badly dubbed foreign film.
"What is going on?" I repeated. "Are you really an alien? How can I understand you?"
The alien sighed and pulled a small silver disc out of a pouch on his belt. He pressed it against the base of my skull, just under my hairline.
"Hey, let go!" I cried. The sticker was cold and pinched my skin.
My head hurt for a split second, and then the feeling faded.
"Better?" The alien asked. His face and his words seemed to match up a little better now. At least there was no delay.
