“What do you want to do?” I placed my hands behind my head. It was a great question because I’d had fuck all in mind. I shrugged with a noncommittal grunt, but Elijah looked away and down at his phone.

“What’s up?” The corner of his lip twitched, and I got suspicious. He pocketed it and stood up.

“Oh, nothing. My mom needs me.” He headed toward the door and I got up to follow.

“You don’t typically smirk at your mom’s messages.” He shrugged his shoulders and kept walking. “Eli!” He ran for the door.

“Tell me about your fun day!” he called over his shoulder as he stepped through and looked back at me. With a wink, he was gone and running across the courtyard.

“Fuck, my keys,” I whispered to myself. He had my car keys and now I was abandoned here. I opened my phone to find the message where Ev had told me his dorm room number, but Lane’s contact popped up onto the screen.

Pest: Room 147

There was no follow-up or explanation. Elijah wanted me to tell him about my fun day and Lane had coincidentally messaged me right after. Curiosity got the better of me and I left the student lounge. I watched the numbers on the doors increase as I got closer.

I stopped in front of a plain door. It hadn’t been decorated like some of the others, but a small whiteboard had Aimee’s name scrawled on it. With three gentle knocks, I waited.

The knob turned and Lane stood in front of me.

“Not Aimee,” I said, pointing to the sign. She dismissed me with a smirk and quick tilt of her head. “Are you planning to kidnap me?”

“Nope.” She stepped back and I walked in after her.

“Murder me?” I asked when she reached for the hem of her shirt and pulled it up over her head. “Flay me and wear my skin surely?” She laughed and pulled my hand as she led me toward the bed. Her arms wrapped around my neck as she stood on her toes and kissed me.

I let my hands wander down her back. Her skin was incredibly soft. I pulled the collar of my shirt over my head, stripping quickly and taking her in my arms again. If I were thinking clearly, I would’ve investigated this situation further because Aimee wasn’t on the bed or near us.

“Look,” she whispered across my lips. Her hands pushed at my hips until I turned around.

Aimee stood across the room and my heart dropped. She’d stripped down to a gorgeous pastel green lingerie set. It complimented the fiery red tone of her hair. The lacy bottoms rode high on her waist and accentuated the curve of her hips and ass. Her long, curly hair had been tied up into a bun.

She grinned at me.

“You lied,” I said to Lane, though I didn’t face her. “You’re definitely trying to kill me.”

“Take a seat, Matt.” Lane’s voice was firm, and I did as I was told. She’d moved farther up the full-sized bed, and I sat on the edge. Aimee stepped forward until her legs brushed against mine. “Baby steps,” Lane reminded me in a small voice before black lace flew past us and onto the floor. “She asked for you first. Are you on board with that?” I thought back to Elijah’s scheming ass.

“Absolutely.”

I held out my hand. Her feather soft touch slid over my palm and sent tingles up my arm. I intertwined our fingers and kissed the top of hers. Lane’s hands came around to my chest as she massaged and kneaded my muscles.

“What’s your safeword?”

“Carnival?”

“Are you asking me or telling me?” I laughed. Carnival was cute and very on the nose. Taking her in, I traced the curves of her waist, stomach, and hips before trailing up to her arm and shoulder. I wanted my touch to be familiar and gentle to her.

“Telling you.”

“Carnival it is, dear.”

Lane’s hands roamed as I slipped off my shoes and remaining clothes. She eyed me as I undressed. Baby steps had been gradual this last month, but sex hadn’t been reached. Or rather, penetrative sex hadn’t. I was a participant of sorts a few times, but this felt larger than that and wildly different than our other escapades.

“Come here.” My hands dove into her wild, curly hair as I brought her to me. Her lips were soft, and her kisses were as sweet as her personality. I hooked my hand behind her knee and tried to pull her onto my lap, but she hesitated and pushed against my chest.

The look on her face tugged at my heart as she stepped back a fraction.

“Are you sure?”
