She absolutely hungered for more of him.

Had to have more of Oliver.

“More,” she urged, lifting her leg against his. Closer, but not close enough. “Oliver,” she wailed, flexing against him, face pressed against his neck, mouth open, tasting him.

Oliver growled and, closing his hands over her bottom, he hefted her, and she clamped her legs around his hips, fusing herself to him. His hard length ground against her pulsing center, and she cried out, incoherent.

He muttered a curse. Sunny felt him move, heard a slam, and then she was on a solid surface.

She was beyond caring where.

All that mattered was her and Oliver. And the burning need between them.

He plunged a hand into her hair, clutching, pulling, fitting his mouth over hers again. The other was on her knee, pushing under the material of her skirt, going higher. And higher. He swiped his thumb across her soaked gusset. They both groaned, teeth clashing, tongues dueling. His hand moved under the material.

“Yeeesss,” Sunny called out as clever fingers filled her, thrusting in, pulling out, and his thumb ground against her clit. And then her climax rushed through her, catching her by surprise, but Oliver was ready, his mouth masking the keen she could not contain.

He kept at her, only slowing his rhythm, gentling hiskisses and his touch as the tremors subsided, leaving her weak and trembling. Her arms slid from his shouldersand fell useless by her side as she slumped back and across the … chest freezer.

Oliver had carried her into the pantry, and then—

Shame rolled in, chasing the warm sense of wellbeing, and she closed her eyes in utter mortification.

“Oh, no. No, you don’t.” Oliver gripped the sides of her face. “Sunny. Open your eyes and look at me.”

It took great effort, but she obeyed his urgent command and stared into his eyes blazing a deep, soul-searching, and hypnotic green. “That was magnificent, Sunny.Youwere magnificent. Feeling you come apart” — a quick grin pulled at his mouth — “in my arms like that was one of the most erotic experiences in my life. Don’t overthink it. Don’t demean it. Please?”

Sunny held his stare for a long moment, beating back the accusatory voices in her head before her gaze drifted away, unseeing.

What she’s said earlier, being a coward, was true.

So very true.

Years ago, she had taken the easy way out, fleeing instead of facing her shortcomings, her fears. Since then, she’d been adrift, finally choosing Clearbrook, Nebraska, to settle and start afresh.

Was Oliver perhaps part of her do-over?

Could she start something with him?Nottell him.

No. They couldn’t build a relationship on a pack of lies.

“Whoa, Sunny Jones. You’ve drifted, sweetheart.”

Sunny Jones.Jones.

A false name.

Okay, not false as in fraudulent, she admitted. It was her legal name now, but nother.

“Sunny?”

“I need …”To tell you the truth, but I can’t, because your admiration would turn to loathing and disgust.“I need to go freshen up, Oliver,” she said instead, pushing at his arms caging her to the freezer.

“I’m not letting you go until you promise me not to erect those walls again. There’s something between us, Sunny. What it is, well, it’s far too soon to tell. And you’re …” Oliver hesitated and gave her a rueful look. “Just don’t overthink this. Us.”

She flicked her eyes back and forth between his, reading the honesty shining from the green depths. “Okay, Oliver,” she whispered. She’d let it be. For now.

He stepped away and helped her slide from the appliance, but he only released her after brushing a briefkiss across her lips. About to walk away, she dropped her gaze to the bulge behind his zipper. “You never—”
