“She was drugged. I guess I was, too, for that matter. I drank from her; that’s how I realized.”

I stand, realizing the mess I am, as I remove my scrubs and move to the corner of the room where an emergency shower stands.

Pulling the cord, I let the spray of water trickle over me as Asher leans against the exam table and takes me in, appreciating every bit of me with his hungry eyes.

“You drank from her,” he repeats, and I nod. “Are you alright? I know you don’t like to break the rules.”

“I’m not five, Asher. I’m fine. I think Lowell will forgive me because we wouldn’t have realized she was drugged otherwise.”

“I beg to differ, but I agree Lowell will forgive you. Things with Silver are going to have to be different.”

“How so?”

“It’s too hard to follow the rules with her. When it comes to Silver, the rulebook needs to be tossed out completely. I planned to bring it up at our next meeting.”

I swallow, still tasting her, even through the tang of Asher’s cum.

The shower turns off, and I pull the cord once more to wash the soap I’ve worked into my flesh off.

“Why would someone drug her?” he asks.

“I suspect so one of us would become so mindless we ended up killing her in the process of losing ourselves to bloodlust.”

“Someone wants our key out of play. Meaning someone’s watching us.”

I nod.

“Well, that just won’t suit. Get dressed, love. We have a traitor to find.”

Chapter 32

Silver

My body is on fire.Liquid flames are ripping at my resolve, and I can’t figure out what would sate the burn: sex, food, blood, revenge? I want it all.

I want to roll in the cold, wet grass of the morning and let it chill to my bones.

I want to run my hands over my aching center as the males who hunger for me stand surrounding the bed, watching, craving.

I moan as I’m placed on the bed in Lowell’s room.

His figure is shadowed and blurry as he walks closer through the open doors from the terrace. “What the hell? What happened?”

“She was drugged in town. Corvin thinks it’s ecstasy. He’s running tests.”

“Of course he is. Why does he think she was drugged?”

Jasper’s apprehension breaks through the haze of whatever’s happening to me as I beg Lowell for a reprieve with a cracked voice. “Please.”

“Shh, little lamb. I’m here.” Lowell eyes Jasper once more.

“He tasted it in her blood.”

Lowell’s eyes grow fiercely dark. “He what?! Does no one listen to me anymore?”

“Hear him out before you set him ablaze. It was a trap. Did he fall into it? Yes. But he’s young, sire.”

Hearing Jasper’s respect for his maker only singes my veins more, causing me to cry out and arch off the bed.
