“Well, Lowell has forbidden us from speaking her name.”

“Why didn’t he kill her? Did he never see her again?”

“He did. He called upon her to help us escape this curse. It was the single most selfless thing I’ve ever witnessed anyone do for someone else.”

“She wouldn’t help?”

“She couldn’t. Only the witch who placed the curse can remove it. The only other way is to?—”

“Break it.”

I nod again.

She drops her gaze away, but worries about my erection are gone, replaced by sadness.

Crouching, I lift her chin. “What’s wrong, Sweet Silver?”

“So many women have done all of you so wrong. And I can’t promise that I’ll be any different in the end.”

She knows she’s probably the key, and a part of her doesn’t want to be. It’s as clear as day on her face.

“There’s a difference when it comes to you.”

“And that is?”

“That we’d stay cursed to keep you happy. To keep you safe.”

A sad smile lifts her lips. “Did you see that coming when you set out to break this curse? You’ve spent so many years trying.”

“I didn’t. But no one could’ve seen you coming.”

“I know I need to go into that box again. There’s so much we need to learn from it, but I don’t know that I can handle it all at once.”

“You don’t have to.”

“Will you be there? With me? Later tonight, maybe?”

“Sure,” I answer before I can think better of it.

Silver’s slowly becoming someone I’d do anything for, and I never thought I’d find that in anyone but Asher.

The door clicks closed, and Silver and I both turn to find the man himself walking towards us.

“Why, hello there, Silver.” There’s a rueful gleam in his eyes that I know all too well.

“Oh boy,” I breathe.

Silver looks at me. “What? What’s wrong?”

“He’s hungry. I can meet you later, yeah?”

She looks at us. “Wait. You’re going to feed him?”

“I am.” My cock fills with blood all over again as I watch her cheeks flush with heat.

“Can I… watch?” She licks her lips.

Asher hops up onto my exam table and pats his lap. “Better than that, Sweet Silver. You can join if you’d like.”
