“Tilt your head, little lamb. Let me see my dinner.”

Chapter 45

Silver

My neck hurts so bad. This all started with a knee-jerk reaction, which, news flash, Vampires don’t like those, especially when they involve you bleeding in their presence.

Jasper looks worried as he looks on behind Lowell, who is currently running his nose dangerously close to my open, bleeding wound.

I came out here, against all their pleading, to apologize for my ignorance. To reel him back in.

After the other night, after we slept together, I think I got a bit too overzealous in thinking we took a few more steps forward than we had.

The way his eyes had changed at the scent of my blood was terrifying. My fear only fed the monster more, too.

“Do as you’re told, little lamb. Show me my dinner.”

My eyes flick to Jasper over Lowell’s shoulder. He gives me a shake of his head.

Then he taps his watch as if to tell me to drag this out. To distract him.

The others must be lurking.

Plotting to trap Lowell.

I elongate my neck, and Jasper’s nostrils flare with anger.

What else am I supposed to do? Disobey?

Lowell makes a sound that makes my spine shiver.

“So. Fucking. Perfect.”

His praise enters my bloodstream and travels straight to my core, warming it to a tepid swelter.

“Lowell, you don’t want to do this. Don’t throw everything away. You’ll lose her. We’ll lose her.” Jasper’s pleading only solidifies my guilt.

What was I fucking thinking?

I pressed him too far. He was teetering on the edge this entire time, and I shoved him over.

It’s my fault.

I deserve to die for this.

At least it’ll be a blissful end.

Jasper’s scream is the only thing I hear before euphoria skitters through me like broken glass.

Lowell’s locked on my throat, his fangs sunken into the open wound I created earlier, his resolve gone.

It’s all my fault.

As venom intoxicates me, guilt dissolves. My hands tangle in his brown hair, gripping on, holding him at my throat.

The snarl from him only dampens my panties further.

Jasper has a hand on him, as if sheer willpower will keep Lowell from going too far. But in this state, I’d give it all to him.
