“You will? Why?”

“There’s something I want to check out.”

“What’s that?”

“It’s a surprise.”

What on earth could it be? Ginny didn't care for surprises, but Austin couldn't know that. He didn’t know who she was anymore. And he certainly didn't know the whole town was already talking about them.

She had to say, the rest of the day dragged despite how busy they were. She couldn't imagine where Austin wanted to take her. Broken Wheel didn’t have a lot of options. Why did he want to take her? What did he have in mind?

Chapter Twelve

When she walked outof the diner, under Janine’s disapproving eye, Poppy, Sofia and Javi were waiting with Austin in his Jeep in front of the diner.

“You want to go home and change or anything?” Austin asked when she pulled herself into the passenger seat.

She wondered why the other three crowded in the back, leaving the front for her. “Depends. Where are we going?”

“We’re going to the football game in San Angelo.”

“Football game? What game?” And since when did Austin care about football? He’d been in marching band, but watching a college game was hardly the same thing. As far as she knew, Poppy and Sofia didn't care about football either.

“Permian Basin versus Angelo State,” Javi said.

“When did you come up with this idea?”

“I don't know. It’s kinda quiet in town and that makes me a little antsy, so I wanted to get out of town, do something.”

“And you picked a football game?”

“I was looking online and a game like this doesn't happen very often. You want to go by the house, or what?”

She glanced down at her jeans and t-shirt. Appropriate enough for a football game. “I’m okay.”

“Okay good, because I want to get on the road. The game’s at six, but we want to get something to eat in town, and I don't know what parking will be like. You sure there’s nothing you need?”
