We lost our wet clothes by each other’s hands, and I lifted her off the floor, pushed her against the wall, and drove into her.

We fucked. Greedy. Hungry.Loud.

We shook the walls and marked each other’s skin.Mine.

Afterward, we took a steaming hot shower together, and I soaped every inch of her skin. Lathered her hair with shampoo and held her head under the spray to rinse it off.

“You’re so fucking beautiful,” I said, palming her breasts and sucking on her bottom lip.

She wrapped her arms around my neck and clung to me. “Don’t forget about me when you get to college. All the girls will be chasing the hotshot football player.” She tried to play it off like she was teasing, but I knew she wasn’t.

Evie tried to hide her insecurities, but I always knew they were there. Just like mine, they were buried deep inside.

I grabbed her face in my hands and tilted it up so she was forced to look me in the eye. “I will never forget you, Evie Bellamy.”

She looked up at me with water dripping from her lashes and her wet body pressed against mine, looking more vulnerable than I’d ever seen her. “Never?”

“Never.” I sealed my promise with a kiss.

For the first time in my life, I felt like I had it all—the girl, not just any girl butthegirl, a full ride to a D1 college, and a family that gave a shit about me.

The only downside to having it all?

Now I had everything to lose.

CHAPTERTHIRTY-NINE

“Come on. Come on. Come on,” Noah said with his hands folded in prayer.

We were down by four points with only six seconds remaining on the clock. The Bobcats had just gotten possession of the ball at the forty-yard line, but it was a long shot.

The quarterback dropped back and fired the ball into the end zone. Ridge leaped up over four defenders and caught it, but the other team’s defense took him down.

“Does he have it?” Noah asked, his voice filled with worry.

It was hard to tell. Ridge was buried under a mountain of players. Seconds later, the ref held up his arms to signal it was a touchdown, and the crowd went wild.

I was on my feet, screaming at the top of my lungs along with everyone around me. Ridge bowed at the waist, hamming it up. Then he jumped into the air, chest-bumping his teammate.

The stadium announcer was shouting over the cheering. “I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. Ridge McCallister scored the winning touchdown!”

Leave it to Ridge to make a dramatic play for the first touchdown of his college career.

Next to me, Noah screamed, “That’s my uncle, Ridge McCallister! Number one!” He waved a sponge finger in the air, and we were caught up in the excitement.

I was so proud of Ridge I felt like I was going to burst.

That’s my man.

It had taken a lot of juggling and favors to make it to today’s game and have the night off. I’d have to wake up at six to get to the diner in time for my breakfast shift. Not to mention all the studying I’d have to catch up on for my community college classes, but it was worth it.

I was so happy I could be here today to watch Ridge shine.
