Adrian tosses a sunscreen bottle at me. “Lather up, baby doll. Don’t want you getting burned for the wedding.”
“I don’t need sunscreen. I’m wearing some already.”
“Hey, Verena!” an unfamiliar voice calls my name.
“Don’t turn around,” Adrian warns, looking over my shoulder.
Too late. I glance behind myself, finding Jannah running up to me with her fake tits bouncing in a skimpy bikini and a massive smile on her face. Jake is not far behind her. Why didn’t I listen to Adrian?
“Hey, Verena, do you mind if we use some of your sunscreen?” Jannah asks as they arrive at our side.
Jake’s gaze lingers on me for a long moment before he clarifies, “We forgot ours on the yacht.”
I’m about to sayyes, because how can I turn them away without sounding petty, when I catch Jannah checking out Adrian’s bare torso.
“Hi, Adrian. Are you enjoying your day?” Jannah asks, pushing her chest out.
“Verena just asked me to apply her sunscreen,” Adrian answers, taking the lotion from my hands. “So, yes. It’s a good day. Ready, beautiful?”
Holy shit, I love the fabricated crap that Adrian can pull out of thin air. It’s a skill that can’t be taught. But is he serious? Adrian wants to rub sunscreen intomybody? He’s either a genius and I swear I’ll be in debt to him forever for feeling me up in front of Jake, or he hasn’t thought this through, and our day is about to get super awkward.
The other part of me can’t believe this is about to happen. I’ve fantasized about this moment since I was a teen—having Adrian’s hands all over me. But never did I imagine it would be for show instead of a real intimate moment. If I’m being sensible, I should tell Adrianno. But nothing about my time in Australia has been a sensible decision, so why start now? There’s too much satisfaction to be gained from having Adrian touch meandfor him to do it in front of Jake.
In one swift movement, I pull my beach-throw over my head and drop it to the sand, revealing my diamond encrusted bikini that’s worth a fortune and makes me look like the sexiest mermaid anyone’s ever seen. That plan I mentioned earlier, the one where Adrian sees me for the first time in seven years and I look hot in a bikini with men chatting me up by the pool—this is the bikini I intended for that scene to take place in. My plans may not have gone accordingly, but this scenario may be even better.
The bikini scores me the exact look I was aiming for from Adrian—a primal caveman desperate to claim what is his. I steal a glance at Jake. His eyes upon me are just as urgent, and he looks miserable that I’m with someone else. A double win for me.
I smile at Adrian, struggling to keep myself from laughing as I adopt a sultry voice. “Yeah, baby, I’m ready for you.”
He pumps sunscreen onto his palm then spreads it down my arms in one sensual stroke before massaging it in. To the left of me, Jake and Jannah are staring at us, speechless like they’ve walked in on a scene they shouldn’t have witnessed but are too startled to look away.
I tilt my head back and moan for extra effect. “Mmm, that feels so good. Don’t forget to do my chest.”
Adrian pauses, and I wonder if I’ve pushed this show too far, but that same primal look remains in his eyes. “You didn’t do your chest before?” His gaze sends me a different question, asking if I really want him to travel to those regions with his hands.
“I applied sunscreen a few hours ago. It will have worn off by now.”
The tiniest growl escapes Adrian’s throat as he pumps another dose of sunscreen. His hands start at my shoulders and slowly work their way down until he’s rubbing the lotion over my breasts. Every inch of my body tingles as Adrian touches my most intimate parts. I’m confident my core temperature has risen and I’m about to burst into flames if Adrian doesn’t rip all our clothes off and take me this very minute. Surely he has to know how much I’m loving this right now, and that this is no longer an act. I’d give anything to feel him inside me.
“Ahem…” Jake clears his throat. With the distraction of Adrian’s hands on me, I totally forgot we had an audience.
“Oh, yeah, sure, help yourself to the sunscreen,” I say, unable to look away from Adrian. “Baby, make sure you get my ass too. Don’t miss a single spot of my body.”
Adrian turns me around, his hot breath whispering into my ear and sending shivers all over my body as he rubs my behind. “You are pure evil. You know that?”
“I’m having fun. Isn’t that what you told me to do?”
He places a hand over my stomach and presses my body to his. I gulp at the sensation of him hard against my ass. “Where did you honestly think this would lead when you asked me to touch your chest?”
I spin around to face him, out of my game now that I know this isn’t an act for Adrian either. I suppose weareattracted to each other, but is that all this is on his side—a physical need rather than emotional? Is he hard because he’s touchingme, or because he’s touching a woman’s body—like with the downward dog scenario?
“I hated the way Jannah was looking at you,” I whisper, realizing I’m alone with Adrian, the other two already halfway down the beach.
“I didn’t notice her.”
With Adrian this close to me, I can feel his breath on my lips and taste his scent on my tongue. If I want to, I know I can close the distance between us and kiss him. I know he won’t turn me away. He’ll indulge in the kiss, and the two of us will spend the rest of the day making out. We’ll probably end up sleeping together when we return to the resort.
Instead, I take the deflating option and step back, not wanting our relationship to progress like that. We’d be a one-time fling and leave this wedding never talking to each other again. As much as my body is begging me to cave and indulge in Adrian, I want the return of our friendship more. I want a meaningful relationship with him instead of complicating everything with sex, especially when he’s in love with another girl.
