Our bodies sing together in such perfect harmony that when I reach the point where my mind and heart are stretched as wide open as my asshole, accepting Dan all the way, the tears flow effortlessly. Joy and pleasure and surrender all in one.
“That’s it,” Dan encourages as the first tears slip out. “Come for me again. That’s it. Yes.”
I judder through a peak, and he fucks me through it. The vow fulfilled, he doesn’t stop, and he takes me higher again and again. I’m sobbing and begging for more. I don’t even know whatmoremeans because what we have is everything.
Dan somehow gives me more, though.
“Dannyyyyy,” I croon, sobbing and shaking as I peak again. My asshole grabs at his plunging cock as I’m wracked with convulsions of bliss. “I love you.”
We go on a long time, Dan watching me avidly, kissing me, praising me, and never letting up until I’m delirious and incoherent. It grows and grows, and once again, I’m catapulted to the stratosphere, love and pleasure consuming my whole self, until I feel like a star being exploded into life.
“Come for me, baby,” he whispers, taking up my cock. “Let me see it again.”
I whine as he strokes me, but with the white-out bliss chasing me through the vast sky of my body, I simply surrender and let it grab me up. I shoot, and shout, and shake, and cling to him like he’s my only lifeboat in a sea of stars.
Dan holds me through it, and then with two more thrusts, finally grunts and comes again too. As he shatters, he stares into my eyes, forehead pressed to mine, breathing my breath, and his own tears welling. “I love you,” he whispers again, jerking with an aftershock. “Forever.”
In this moment, what we have is a shining perfect infinity.
Infinity can never die.
INTERLUDE 7
Buck
Four hours earlier
Buck sips thechampagne and watches his son dancing with his new husband, and, unwillingly, grief snatches at his heart. He blinks rapidly and turns to look out at the meadow below. He wishes Lisa could have been here to see this. She’d told him when Sejin was a small boy that she believed their son was gay, and she’d let him know in no uncertain terms that, for her, Sejin came first.
“So, I hope you can make your peace with it,” she’d said to him, chin trembling. “Because I won’t have him feel anything but love here in this house.”
Buck remembers how he’d asked Lisa wonderingly, “Do you really think I’d have a problem with this? When you’ve known me all these years?”
“You don’t?”
“No, he’s the same boy he’s always been. I promised to love him when we adopted him, and that’s not going to change.”
“And when he brings a boy home? When he wants to kiss him or date him or marry him?”
That, Buck has to admit, even now, had taken him a long second to process, but once he’d imagined it—Sejin with his then-long hair bringing home some local boy whose father would undoubtedly have more trouble with it than Buck would…. Sejin kissing a boy on their sofa when he thought no one was looking… Sejin marrying a boy in whatever way the law would allow… He’d pictured it all. “Then I’ll shake that boy’shand and tell him to treat my son right, and I’ll make sure he does just that.”
As it turned out, that wasn’t the last time Buck and Lisa had discussed Sejin’s sexuality, but it was the most important time.
A hand slides down his arm and takes his. Buck smiles, breaks his gaze away from the sun-dappled meadow, and turns to Peggy Jo.
“You doing okay there, mister?” she asks, patting his back and smiling up at him. Her mascara is still a little smeared from where she’d cried during the ceremony, but even so, she looks pretty as a picture with the lowering sun on her face, making her blue eyes shine.
“Doing just fine,” he answers. “How about you?”
“Thinking that you’re probably missing your Lisa right about now.”
He laughs, brings the glass to his lips, and swallows down another sip of champagne.
“What would she think of all this?” Peggy Jo asks, and Buck knows she means everything from what would Lisa think of her Dan to what would she think of this location and ceremony.
“She’d have cried her eyes out,” Buck says. “She’d have tried to hold it back, but there’s no way she would have managed it. Lisa felt every emotion so strongly. She loved him with every fiber of her being. This is…” He swallows. “This is a hard day—a good day—but a hard one all the same. She’d have wanted to see him so happy, to hear his vows, to be here, alive and healthy. To meet Dan and—” he breaks off.
They stare out at the meadow for a long time, and then Peggy Jo whispers, “It was a beautiful ceremony.”
