“I love you, Doc. Anyway, I need to get to the recovery-training-montage portion of the day. I can’t wait to…” I sigh. “…walk around the living room for thirty minutes.”

“I’m sure it’ll hurt more than you expect.”

“Most things do. Unless they don’t.”

“Cut,” Sejin murmurs, putting the phone down. He stands, and I rise too. He steadies me, and watches with concern as I put weight on my bad leg. “Does it hurt?”

“Not as much as your ass probably does.”

“My ass is fine.” He kisses my nose, then nuzzles my hairline.

“Itis.”

“Oh, God, I walked right into that one.”

“Yeah.”

Just like he’d walked right into my van that night three months ago.

The best and luckiest night of my life.

Maybe I’d already used up all my luck for Heart Route by getting Sejin instead. Even if it meant falling and getting a broken leg and spending up to a year on the ground… Having Sejin was worth it.

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

Dan

“Dan, this ismy friend, Sailor Evans.”

Sejin sent me to open the door for our guests, and as soon as I do, I go nearly slack-jawed at the bombshell standing there with Lowell and Rye. She’s got crystal blue eyes, vanilla blonde hair and eyebrows, and breasts that can’t be disguised even beneath the layers of her sweater and her coat. I’m so stupefied that I don’t even invite them in until Rye mutters, “Not you too,” and shoves past me into the house.

Lowell continues the introduction, “Sailor, this Dan McBride, the asshole who fell trying to free solo Heart Route.”

Sailor looks to be around twenty-eight or so, maybe a little older, and she smiles at me like she already likes me, which is weird. And also kind of hot. She’skind of hot. It’s been a long time since my bisexuality has stirred from its slumber, but right now it’s wide awake and very perky. Like her tits. Holy shit.

“Nice to meet you,” I squeak out.

She laughs and puts out her hand. I take it and note the rough firmness of her grasp. A bombshell, a broad, a babe. All those beautiful B words for ladies flood my mind, but after a few seconds pass, I manage to tamp it back.

Because no matter how pretty she is, her smile isn’t nearly as gorgeous as Sejin’s, and she doesn’t make my tummy flip over or make my heart sing.

But, wow, in another time and place, I’d be all over her like white on rice.

“I’ve seen some of your Instagram posts and TikToks,” Sailor says. She’s still holding my hand and looking at me as if I’m a celebrity and she’s about to ask for my autograph. “I loved the one you put up recently of your boyfriend sleeping. That was cute.”

“He’s pretty when he sleeps,” I say a little bit dazed. But I tug my hand from hers to turn and motion to the guy in question, approaching with Rye at his heels. My heart lifts. “Even prettier when he smiles. Go on, show her,” I say to Sejin.

Sejin rolls his eyes at me and laughs, putting out his hand. That friendly smile that’s just a few watts less wonderful than his “I’m in love with you” smile comes across his face. Yup, there it is, that heartsong strumming in my chest again. So annoying and wonderful.

“Hey, I’m Sejin.”

“I recognize you,” she says with another of her own bright smiles. Between the two of them, they might blind a guy. “From Dan’s social media posts.”

“Oh? You follow him?”

“Of course. He’s posting some interesting content.” She winks. “Like said videos of you.”

Sejin looks a little bashful. “I don’t know why he does that.”
