“Fuck. I’m in deep,” I whisper, keeping my voice low so as to not risk waking the darling boy.

I’m leaning against the kitchenette counter, my phone in hand, the screen’s glow harsh against the dim room. Cole’s messagefrom earlier is still open, and I’m re-reading it, my jaw tight as the words sink in deeper…

C: Cartel’s tightening the screws on Vince. Word is they’re done with his sloppy ass—told him to tie up loose ends or he’s fish food. And we know that cartels don’t play around when it comes to threats. Bodie’s their top target. They know he could blow his laundering scam wide open. Threat level is through the roof. So… we good?

I clench the phone, my knuckles whitening.

Vince’s not just a jealous ex anymore, he’s a cornered animal, backed by cartel heavies who don’t play games. Except now that the cartel is threatening to turn against him, it opens up a whole other world where the cartel comes for Bodie direct.

Bodie’s life—his spark, his Little side, his everything—is on the line, and the weight of it presses on me like a lead vest.

My Guard instincts are screaming to move, to act, to end this now.

Our plan—the pier, Shred as bait, drawing Vince out—is our one shot, and it’s gotta be perfect. No mistakes, no second chances.

I’ve lost too much in my life to let this slip.

I type back, my fingers steady despite the storm in my gut…

H: We’re set. Connor says the leak is in play, pier’s prepped. Connor on overwatch, you and me on the ground. Vince shows, we take him alive if possible. But if not, we do what we need to do. Bodie stays locked down here. Keep your eyes and ears open for any further intel on those goons in the area. Any shift, you tell me.

I hit send, exhaling hard, and glance at Bodie again.

The sweet sleeping boy has shifted, one leg poking out from the blanket, Billy’s sunglasses glinting like he’s standing guard.

My lips twitch, a ghost of a smile breaking through.

Bodie is tough, braver than he knows, facing Vince’s threats, trusting me to keep him safe. That trust—it’s a gift, one I don’t deserve but won’t betray.

I think back to this morning, coloring with him, his giggles as we drew sparkly dolphins, the way he called me Daddy and sank into my arms. It wasn’t just Little Space… it wasus, building something real, something I didn’t think I’d ever have.

Don’t get emotional.

Keep your mind clear, man.

There will be time for that heartfelt shit once this is done.

I set the phone down, scrubbing a hand over my scar, the one from that jungle op that haunts me.

I’ve always been a Daddy, craving that bond, that control, but my life’s a minefield—missions that could end me, secrets I can’t share. Most Littles couldn’t handle it, and I stopped looking for one who could.

But Bodie… he’s different.

The boy’s fire, his sass, the way he leans into his Little side without shame—it’s got me hooked. I’m falling for him, hard, and it’s not just about protecting him anymore. I want him in my life, by my side, calling me Daddy when the danger’s gone.

Well, if the danger ever truly is gone, that is.

And that’s a bigifas far as a Guard is concerned.

The thought of losing Bodie makes my blood boil. I’ve seen what cartels do to loose ends, and Bodie’s no match for their firepower.

But I am.

Cole, Connor, and me—we’re the Guards, and we don’t lose.

Tomorrow, we’ll lure Vince to the pier, let his ego drag him into our trap. I picture it: Shred parked under the pier’s lights, Connor’s rifle trained from the warehouse roof, Cole and me closing the net. Vince won’t see it coming, and when he’s down, the feds can have him, gift-wrapped with enough evidence to lock him away for good.

Sure, Vince’s ass will be marked for a cartel killer the second he steps foot inside a prison. But that’s life. He got involved with the wrong people, there’s nothing I can do about that.
