“I don’t mean likethat. But there’s no such thing as any long term healthy relationship where there’s no reciprocity. And I may be shy, but I can admit I like touching you.”
He was silent for a long moment, eyes narrowed on her face. She waited patiently, then slowly, he released her wrist.
“You know I would never—” he stopped, as if he couldn’t even say the words. “I would never—”
“I know, Tai’ri,” she said, voice very gentle, reminding herself that theybothhad wounds.
She increased the speed and pressure of her caresses, a deep feminine satisfaction settling into her at the sight of his tense shoulders and utter abandon when he finally came. Almost helpless under her touch as he slumped forward, bracing his hands on either side of the ledge.
“Vivian,” he said, then lowered his head and took her mouth. Dominant, nearly savage, his tongue shoving between her lips. A hand wrapped around her neck, holding her still as her lips opened under his.
Vivian gave herself up to the kiss, gave herself up to the pleasure when his fingers found her clit, rubbing and flicking with incredible speed. Her hips bucked, and she grabbed his biceps, tearing her mouth away so she could gulp in lungfuls of air.
Fingers slipped into her sheath as he worked her bud, one hand pumping in and out, fingers hooked inside her as he adjusted the angle and pressure according to her cries.
“That’s right, yada’ami,”he growled. “Come for me.”
The tremor began in her core and spread to her toes, overtaking her in a rush of pleasure. Her spine arched, the sides of her uterus sore from the sudden spasms. She screamed, and he kept rubbing and fucking her until she slumped, pushing his hands away.
“Stop, stop, that’s enough,” she cried. “You’re going to kill me.” But she laughed, a deep, throaty release of energy. “Oh my god. I didn’t know a man could do that with just his fingers.”
He pressed a kiss on the corner of her mouth. “I am not a man. I am a Yadeshi warrior. And I am yours.” His voice lowered to a whisper. “And just so there is no mistake—there is more than one method ofconsummation. Enja. You are mine.”

“Clever bastards,”Evvek muttered, then sat back in his seat. “So look, this is what happened.”
“Give me the short version,” Tai’ri said.
After a blissful day and then evening spent with Vivian, he’d come into base this morning only to learn that the tracker he’d planted on Zhiannur had gone dark after the Aeddannur finally landed planetside and disappeared into the city.
He happened to be in the area, so why not check in?
“The short version is that theV’dahnneeds to upgrade the city’s infrastructure. Our quarry disappeared into a black hole between signals. I looked up telecom records and residents have been complaining for years, until they just started moving out. It’s a dead zone.”
“He went into Sector 7.”
Evvek grimaced, then kicked the leg of his desk. “Yeah. I’ve been saying for years that ignoring that sector would bite us in the ass. Lack of resources, blah blah, not a priority, blah fucking blah, slated for future rehabilitation, my ass. But they have to have some kind of signal to get data in and out. Probably hardwire. I just have to find it, track it to the hotspots and then we’ve got our guy.”
“But as soon as he comes out, you’ll have him again anyway.”
“If he doesn’t find the tracker, yeah.”
“How long will it take you to find that hard wire?”
Evvek gave him a baleful look. “You aren’t supposed to be involved.”
“How long did you all expect that to last?” he demanded.
Eveek stabbed a finger at him. “You clear it with Vykhan.”
“Fine, just get the op set up.” It took ten minutes of fast talking and ignoring Vykhan’s icy stare before theAdekhanrelented.
“Just gather intelligence,” Vykhan said finally. “TheBdakhunwants you to remain alive for the birth of your child.”
Ah ha. Therealreason he’d been pulled off duty. A female’s tender heart.
Evvek had been listening to the conversation. “Take your team out on standby, and try not to trip over my people. It won’t be that long.”
