When they reached the foyer, Fin placed a quick kiss to the old woman’s temple. “Never you mind.” Casting his glance to the ceiling, he added, “Why don’t you lock my study, so Cyan stays out of trouble, and then keep Sacha busy. If this is who I think it is, I don’t want her anywhere near these twats.”

When the old woman disappeared up the stairs, Fin turned to the entrance and drew a deep breath. “Let’s get this over with,” he muttered.

Chapter 21

Sacha

Bliss,thewarmwaterfelt like heaven on earth.

Sacha leaned against the smooth, stone wall. While the heat massaged her sore muscles and aching back, she let her thoughts wander to the man who shared his home, bed, and body last night.

His rough manner was exciting, but she sensed there was more to him lurking beneath the surface—some darker side he kept hidden, or under tight control.

The memory of his tongue dancing across her skin made her shiver. She’d never entertained a one-night stand before, and she didn’t even know if what they did was considered such since they hadn’t technically had sex.

What the hell am I thinking?

He was a stranger who somehow shot fire from his hand, was rude in every sense of the word, and made her whole body tighten with lust when his gaze landed her way. And his accent was icing on the cake.

My thoughts should focus on getting the hell out of this crazy old tower and figuring out how I’m going to support myself to stay out of Pop’s—and Lorenzo’s—grubby hands.

Thoroughly scrubbed, she stepped out of the shower and grabbed a hanging towel from the wall.

The old bathroom was cute, with an antiquated sink and heavy-looking, solid oak cabinets. A small window, set high above, let in rays of sunlight.

Wrapping her hair to dry, she jumped at a rapid knock on the door.

Her breath quickened, and she wondered if it was Fin.

Doubt it, he’d just waltz right in without any warning, the rude, beautiful jerk.

“Yes?” To her ears, there was a squeak in her voice.

“Sorry, my dear,” Margaret said, “but Fin wanted me to bring some fresh clothes.”

Sacha grabbed another towel and threw it around her body before she opened the door with a smile. “That was thoughtful.”

The old woman’s face was flushed, and her steely eyes kept darting to the entrance of the bedroom. “Like I said, he’s a good man—most of the time.” She licked her lips and deposited the clothing into Sacha’s waiting arms. “Especially to those he—”

“Fuck.” Even through the thick, stone floor and walls, the curse rang clearly. Fin’s voice sounded strained and furious.

Sacha gripped Margaret’s arm, mouth falling open with fright.

Chapter 22

Fin

Fintookadeepbreath and swung open the door.

Bright morning sunshine glistened from standing puddles along the gravel pathway.

A beefy, greasy guy held a gun pointed to Fin’s chest. Next to him stood another man whose face he’d know anywhere. The cruel, vindictive monster responsible for all his misery and abandonment in this godforsaken, technologically-driven world caused Fin’s vision to narrow until everything else fell away.

“Well, fuck.” Fin’s words dripped with fury and venom. “Vito Ninette.”

The older man jutted his chin in Fin’s direction. “Do I know you?” His eyes raked the robe, and his brows scrunched. “You look like you belong in a freakshow.” A self-satisfied smirk lifted a corner of his mouth.

“Oh, we’ve met before.” Fin took a step forward, undeterred by the large weapon held by the gorilla. “I was only a boy, but you were a grown man who needed your goons to hold me down so you could whip me into a bloody pulp.”
