“Of course. Do you want me to call a cab?” He lifted an eyebrow. “Or, you can let me show off a little, and I can teleport you straight to your front porch.”
“You—calling a taxi and interacting with this world? I don’t know if I’m in shock or awe.”
“I know.” He shuddered. “It’s been a horrible experience.”
She shook her head and laughed. “This city isn’t my home.” Her heels lifted and she stood on tiptoes to brush her lips to his. “My home is a dumpy old tower with a crazy sorcerer, a kind old woman, and a sweet dragon.”
His eyes flashed, and a low growl rumbled from his chest.
Chapter 38
Fin
Forthefirsttimein years, Fin felt happy.
Feeling Sacha’s body next to his was heaven. He pulled her from the noisy, overcrowded bar and through the glass doors.
Looking for a place where he could teleport without causing a stir, he settled on an alley near the building and drew her into his arms.
She melted into his embrace and wrapped her fingers around the nape of his neck. “I missed you, Fin.”
He inhaled her scent. The ring on his finger felt warm, and the pea glowed with soft light.
“And I missed you, Princess Scabbers.”
“You know”—small white teeth flashed him a grin—“I hated that name at first.”
“I know.” He pulled her hand to his cheek and closed his eyes.
She moaned, then leaned into his hard frame. Her coolness absorbed his heat.
“Gods, I want you right here and now.” He snaked a hand to the small of her back and caressed the skin.
“No way.” Her laugh tinkled through the dark night. “I’m not sleeping with you until we get to your old tower. It grew on me, and I’ve been wondering if we could test out those handcuffs again and see what other tricks you might have in store.” Her grin was wicked. “Plus, I’d like to try out your bed. That guest mattress was absolute torture.”
Red-hot desire shot straight to his groin. He threw his head back, grabbed the wall, and released pounding energy from his veins. A distant streetlight flickered for a moment, then steadied.
A self-satisfied smirk formed on her lips.
“You’re such a little tease.”
“You haven’t seen the half of it, yet.” She licked her lips and winked. The dark lashes fanned against the soft skin of her face.
Blood pounded in his ears, and he suppressed a growl. He wanted to press his lips to her lids and feel their flutter against his mouth.
Cyan slid upward and climbed onto Sacha’s shoulder, moving his feet with precise movements, as if being careful to not cut her skin. Stretching his wings, he bobbed his head and shrieked.
“Yes, yes. I know you’re tired.” The baby dragon’s actions and words brought Fin’s mind back to mundane matters. “We’re about to head home and Margaret will make you all the tacos you want.” Using the tip of a fingernail, Fin scratched behind a scaly ear. “You were very brave tonight.”
Two rings of smoke blew from his nostrils, then he yanked his head sideways and snapped the air near Fin’s finger.
“And yet—” He jerked his hand away. “—You’re still a little bastard.”
Sacha’s eyes followed the exchange, and laughter rang from her mouth, making Fin’s heart stutter against his ribs.
“After you left, Margaret made an anonymous call to the authorities. It seems Vito will be spending the rest of his days in the Menard Correctional Center.” He laced his fingers through hers.
“I know.” She sighed. “He deserves whatever karma dishes out.”
