Hell, she still hadn’t decided.

Exhausted after days of fretting over what to do, she’d picked up her coat and almost ran out the apartment.

Maybe seeing him would help her choose. She hoped.

A few more seconds passed, with only the icy sound of rain keeping her company.

This was a bad idea.

It was late, she probably looked like a wet cat, and Rynar was herboss. The same boss which had kissed the breath out of her only a few days ago.

If she closed her eyes, she could still feel the ghost of his touch on her back. He’d made her moan with a kiss. One single kiss. Amazing.

Just as she was getting ready to turn around and run back home, the door opened.

Alissia forgot all about the cold that had seeped into her bones.

Rynar stood in front of her in all his glory. But not his typical glory. Gone were the dark suits and the all-knowing gaze. His horns still shined like always, but instead of his imposing aloofness, now he had a curious, surprised look on his face. Alissia even thought she saw a hint of vulnerability in his dark eyes.

Instead of perfectly pressed office attire, he wore a traditional Deruzian robe in shades of green, with golden symbols on its edges.

The robe was not tied.

Alissia got a clear view of his amazing abs, all muscly and delectable.

To top it all off, Rynar Te’Oken, the feared, inscrutable lawyer, wasn’t alone. Oh, no.

He held a black cat in his arms, like it was a kid he had to protect.

Instead of asking Alissia what the hell she was doing there, a concerned spark shined in his mesmerizing gaze.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

Alissia parted her lips to say yes, she was okay. She swore she did.

But what she actually said was, “Yes, I’ll marry you.”

ALISSIA

Alissia didn’t know who was more surprised, she or Rynar.

Maybe they were both equally shocked. At least the cat was calm. It kept staring at Alissia with its beautiful gray eyes, as if it couldn’t quite decide whether it wanted to snuggle in her arms or scratch her face off.

For now, though, it stayed in Rynar’s embrace. Lucky creature. Between its mellow purr and the howl of the rain, the silence beat even more against Alissia.

She had just told Rynar she wanted to marry him, right? She hadn’t imagined it.

Had he–had he changed his mind?

God, what if he had? What if he’d had time to reconsider his offer and decidedhedid not want to marry her?

Had she just made the biggest fool of herself? She’d come to his house in the middle of a storm to tell him she wanted to get hitched. How was she going to show her face at Alien Inc. ever again?

God…what if he didn’t want to work with her anymore?

As if sensing her turmoil, Rynar snapped out of his stupor. He blinked more times than Alissia had ever seen on a Deruzian. A slow smile lifted the corners of his lips.
