Anger burned away at the fear.

She felt more in control.

“But I didn’t,” she went on. “Want to know why?”

Silence again.

But at least this time, the gun didn’t borrow deeper into her skin. This guy was curious.

“Because nobody treated me as well as Rynar did,” she said. “No guy–no human–ever even thought about putting my needs before his own. Or try to make me feel comfortable.”

“Are you trying to say it’s our fault you defiled yourself with an alien?”

Alissia gritted her teeth. “No, I’m saying I was waiting for a guy who treated me like he did. The fact that he’s an alien is a detail. He’s a guy who knows what he wants. Decisive. Just like you were when you decided to ambush me.”

“Don’t compare us. He hashorns.”

“Yes, they make him look frightening, don’t they? Like a demon?”

He gulped. “I’m not afraid.”

“Of course not, but I was. When I first saw him,” she lied.

“You should have stayed away.”

“We all make mistakes, am I right…what’s your name?”

“I–you haven’t earned the right to my name.”

Keep him distracted. That’s all she had to do. “Do you have a girlfriend?”

He went quiet again. And tense.

“None of your business,” he seethed.

“I bet you do. You seem like the type.”

More silence. In the clearing, the grunts and crunching leaves had become less frequent.

“Oh, yeah?” the guy asked. “Why?”

“Because you seem like a guy with a cause. And people follow causes to protect the ones they care for.”

“Well I don’t. Not anymore. Shows what you know.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.” Kudos to whoever that woman was; may she run far, far away from this waste of oxygen. “When did you break up?”

“That’s…I have agunto your head!”

“I’m just curious.” Alissia dared to shrug. “If you’re going to kill me, might as well have a nice chat before I die.”

“My personal life is my own–”

“And mine isn’t?”

The guy inhaled sharply. “I–”

Alissia went in for the kill.
