“I might have an idea.” Rynar took off his coat, draping over the back of the closest chair. How very human of him. He hadn’t even been conscious of doing it.
Curious.
He rolled up his sleeves and made a show of ripping a piece of some glistening Earthen bird that was just waiting to be enjoyed. Then he sunk its teeth into it. Nines, it was so juicy. “This is amazing.”
Zinny’s ears perked up, even though his attention was still on the cheese.
Alissia raised her brows at Rynar, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. “Oh, really?”
“Yes, definitely,” Rynar said between mouthfuls. “It’s so juicy and tender. Best meat I’ve eaten in a long time.”
Now Zinny turned his head toward him and licked his whiskers.
“I have to try some for myself,” Alissia said, playing along. She pressed her lips together to keep from laughing. Pity. Rynar loved to hear her laughter.
“Oh, no, no. This is just for me,” Rynar said. “It’s so good, I can’t stop eating.”
“Zinny wants,” he purred, coming to stand at the edge of the counter, little nose high in the air.
“Are you sure?” Rynar asked. “You’d have to give up the cheese.”
“Yes. I wants.”
Zinny hopped off the counter and ran to Rynar, rubbing against his legs, tail high up in the air. As soon as Rynar ripped another piece of meat and bent down, Zinny leaped and sunk his teeth into it, sauntering out of the kitchen with his prey.
As soon as he disappeared down the hallway, Alissia finally let out a giggle. “That’s a nifty little trick.”
“Zinny always wants what he can’t have,” Rynar said, licking his lips too. The food was truly delicious.
“Just like a toddler. I’m wondering how his teenage years are going to be like.”
Rynar instantly pictured him and Alissia sitting on the couch, trying not to laugh as Zinny threw a tantrum. That simple image warmed his hearts. Even the past few minutes had been such beautiful domestic bliss. Simple, easy, and so intimate. Like their own little universe that only they could understand and enjoy.
“Ready for our talk?” Rynar asked. Because he had so much to tell her–and hoped she’d understand every bit of it.
He’d been afraid of being vulnerable and opening up to another being all his life. It would have been a torturous waste had he not met Alissia.
With her, he felt complete. Free. No more suffocating his emotions before they could begin to form. No more controlling all his reactions. No constant need to control every aspect of his life.
She’d turned his existence upside down in the best ways. Now all he could hope for was that she wouldn’t shatter it. She was the only being who had the power to.
Alissia took a deep breath and faced Rynar, a determined look on her face. “Yes, let’s talk. About everything.”

ALISSIA
This was it.
All cards out on the table, nothing to hide anymore. Alissia had more questions than answers, but she wanted to be as open as possible.
With Rynar, she’d learned that opening up and letting her guard down wasn’t a liability. God, it felt good to justbe.
But they still had some things to talk about. Then…well, then she didn’t know what would happen.
She knew what outcome she wanted and all she could do was hope Rynar felt the same way.
They stared at each other some more, both opening their mouths and closing them.
