She was sure of one thing–they were doing that again tonight, fatigue be damned.
Her eyes slowly fluttered open. But instead of the dim light the living room had been bathed in before, there was now a powerful glow all around her–and it came from behind.
Kiara turned her head to look at Deryg and she couldn’t quite believe what she was seeing.Hewas glowing. A soft light flowed from his chest, spidering through his entire body. He looked like someone had dipped his hearts in gold.
He didn’t even seem aware of it, eyes closed as he kept licking her.
“Wow,” she whispered.
Only then did their gazes meet. His eyes went wide as he looked at himself. A brilliant smile lit up his face even more. “It’s happening.”
“What is this?” she asked.
“The glow of happiness. I’ve heard rumors about it, but never saw it for myself. Deruzians can glow when they are truly happy and at peace.”
Her wide smile matched his. “I’m happy, too. Happier than I ever thought possible.”
“Kiara?” he asked.
“Yes?”
“I love you.” He pressed his forehead to hers, words breathed against her lips as if he wanted to speak them into her soul. “Beyond the planets, stars, and galaxies. Beyond the Nines. I love you and I always will.”
“I love you, too,” Kiara said, fighting back tears of happiness. “Now and forever.”
Their lips melted against each other as they sealed their fates the same way their story had began–with a kiss.
EPILOGUE
DERYG
“This year has been, as I have heard Alissia mutter more than once, ashit-show,” Yakirian said, voice booming throughout the conference room. He wasn’t even furious. He simply had this aura about him that made everyone listen.
Deryg sat at the other end of the long table filled with Deruzians. Rynar sat on his left, Nazyn and Zaryn on the right, all tense.
Deryg had reluctantly left Kiara’s embrace this morning. But not before kissing her senseless and marveling at the happiness the Nines had bestowed upon him.
There were still many things they needed to discuss, the official mating ceremony among them. But Deryg had promised her ada-teand he would give her the most amazing night of her life.
Once this meeting was over, he planned on asking Rynar, Zaryn, and Nazyn how in the Nines they’d seduced their own fated mates–so Deryg could do it better.
Rexan was right, he’d always been competitive.
Thoughts of romance and feeling Kiara’s body writhing underneath his again would have to wait.
First, they had to plan Alien Inc.’s next move.
The man stuck underneath the pillar last night was still unconscious.
The guests were traumatized.
Every Deruzian in this room carried at least one wound from the ambush.
Deruzians didn’t take kindly to being attacked.
“I don’t understand,” Jaryn said, still slurring his words from the wound on his lip. After this meeting, Deryg would give him some of the healing ointment he had in his office. “How can feces be a spectacle?”
“It’s one of those unusual human sayings,” Yakirian said. “But it means a disaster. Though she was mumbling and getting redder while she explained, perhaps it’s a side effect.”
