Deryg cursed whoever was calling with the might of all the gods his kind had revered throughout millennia. It took all his willpower to pull his attention away from her and her reddened lips.

His team knew better than to call him unless it was a serious issue.

He pressed on the comm with too much force.

“Speak,” he growled.

“The human police is here,” Jaryn, his second-in-command rasped, voice echoing in the small office. He was a Deruzian of few words. Deryg liked that about him. What Jaryn couldn’t verbalize, he made up for with brute strength. “They are asking questions. Too many.”

Deryg clenched his jaw. That meant Deryg had to go down and deal with them–and the contrabandist. He hadn’t forgotten about his beady, cowardly eyes.

He chanced a glance at Kiara. Her lips were so swollen. Deryg leaned down to claim them once more.

Kiara placed a gentle palm against his chest. “I heard. You need to go.”

He did, didn’t he?

The Nines were unforgiving today.

Deryg closed the comm and stared at Kiara. He was still holding her. One of her hands was wrapped around his left horn. They were both breathing heavily.

Realization struck them at the same time.

What had they done?

KIARA

“What were you thinking?” Kiara murmured at her reflection, holding onto the bathroom sink’s edge like she wanted to dig her fingers through the polished ceramic.

Like Deryg had held onto the windowsill before he’d turned her entire world upside down.

God, that kiss. All tongue and fire and passion, slithering through her veins. Igniting her senses as they hadn’t ever been.

Kissing on the premises was definitelynotcompliant to the Alien Inc.’s rules of conduct. In fact, Kiara was sure her and Deryg had broken about ten of those rules just now. After all, they had exchanged bodily fluids–saliva counted, okay?–and he had seen her lingerie. Okay, only her bra, but still. And they would’ve done much more–so, so, so much more–if they hadn’t been interrupted.

Sure, the rules had changed after Zaryn and Lily had discovered they’re fated mates–and she was hisassistant. Butbetween their office hook-ups and Rynar and Alissia getting caught in a compromising position in the conference room, horns were starting to shake.

The Deruzian higher-ups had accepted relationships were bound to happen, but they weren’t super thrilled about couples flaunting it, apparently. Which was strange, but Kiara didn’t want to walk in on Rynar and Alissia fucking against the window either.

Just like nobody would have wanted to walk in on her and Deryg only a few minutes ago. She hoped nobody noticed how disheveled she was when she’d finally wobbled out of her office.

Her hair was a mess, her low bun now disheveled and swaying against the nape of her neck. Deryg had done that. Deryg had done a lot of delicious things to her. Pulling on her blouse, licking her neck. Gentle and ravenous all at once.

He’d wanted her with an almost unrelenting passion. Kiara didn’t know how she could sense his desire, but she had. The ghost of it still pulsed against her, making her knees weak again.

Her hasty fingers unwrapped the bun and wound it back up into a semblance of a proper hairdo. Kiara ran her hands down her blouse, as if that could do anything to unwrinkle it.

Good thing Deryg hadn’t bit her neck, she had no clue how she’d hide a damn hickey. Though she’d wanted him to.

She could just imagine the scrape of his fangs against the veins in her neck–

Her phone buzzed, startling her. Kiara answered without checking who was calling.

Big mistake.

“Hello, Kiara,” her mom’s perfectly polite voice echoed in the bathroom, jumping off the coppery tiles. Bianca Earhart was nothing if not well-mannered.
