“What a great idea, Channey!” Liv lay her hand on Chance’s bicep, paying him a compliment for whatever idea he’d just suggested to these promotion guys that I’d already decided weren’t getting hired several minutes ago.
Having the entire team in meetings like this was tradition, one my father and Al had started. A tradition I was now very much invested in breaking.
Chance’s eyes found mine straight away as he shrugged off Liv’s arm. To anyone else—it was a polite and gentle reminderto keep her hands to herself. But I knew that look, that tick of annoyance in his jaw. He pushed back his chair as the marketing men continued with their presentation. He picked up three bottles of water from the table behind us all before plonking down in the only other chair available, at the very end of the table. After throwing one to JJ and one to me, Chance slid that lazy bored mask over his face again. Then, to my surprise, he pulled out his phone.
I was about to throw the water bottle back at him when my own phone buzzed.
Chance:Your green-eyed jealousy monster face is still out. Might want to tone it down a little.
I scoffed.
Me:I was not jealous.
A flicker of amusement crossed his face.
Chance:It’s all good, Sunny. Your jealous face is pretty close to your ‘fuck me now’ face—so I’m here for it.
I rolled my eyes and shoved my phone into my pocket. I could have sworn I heard Chance chuckle from behind me.
Feeling his eyes burning into me, I caved.
Me:Stop staring. You’re being obvious.
Chance: I can’t help it. I can still smell you on me.
I just about dropped my phone, along with my eyeballs that had popped out from my head like a cartoon.
Oh, dear god.
I frowned as my body betrayed me, rushing heat to my cheeks.
JJ (to Chance, Me):Can you two quit it with the eye-fucking? Some of us are trying to learn.
Chance:Fuck off.
JJ: Your pheromones are stinking up the room. I’ve been holding back a gag for ten minutes now.
I snorted, earning the attention of Nan and Al, as well as half of the guys presenting at the front. Sighing, I tucked my phone back away.
Chapter 37
Mari
“We’re doing something brave today.” Chance stood about a metre away from the door, a navy blue cap on his head. Somehow those gorgeous eyes looked like they weresparkling.
“Good morning to you too.” I ran a hand through the curly mess my hair had entangled itself in. The movement didn’t go unnoticed, apparently, since those shining eyes flared.
“Go and get dressed. I’ll wait.” He smirked, walking inside. “Your nan around?”
I gave him a light shove into the wall, and he chuckled.
“Your relationship with my nan is beyond weird.” I looked up at his face, his dimple popping on his right side.
“She’s an important lady,” he countered. “I’d hate to be on her bad side.”
“I thought I heard you.” As if on cue, Nan’s head poked around the corner. “Good morning, dear. How are you going?” Nan waved a hand, gesturing for Chance to follow.
“Oh, I’mexcellent, Marilyn. How’re you doing?” He shot a cheeky smile my way before heading into the kitchen.
