“I needed to get out of the city one night, I was … caught up in some shit.” He plonked down on one of the pillows, beckoning me to join him. “I was only new to the area and was trying to get to the highway. I was flooring it down the road when, believe it or not, there was a kangaroo — just staring at me dead in the face. I swerved just in time to miss the bastard but landed on this dirt road. Figured … figured I had a minute or two to see where it led to.”

A strong, warm arm wrapped around my shoulders, and I couldn’t help but snuggle up to his warm chest. We both sighed simultaneously, looked up at each other, and laughed.

“So, are you gonna ask me?” I murmured, expertly ruining out nice moment.

“Ask you what?” He flicked a brow up in surprise.

“C’mon, Chance. I know you want to ask about my dad.” A blink was all that told me he was surprised.

“Would you tell me if I asked?” he asked, lifting his eyebrows at me expectantly.

“Probably not,” I replied with a half-hearted chuckle. “But I probably should.”

“I won’t ask unless you want to tell, Sunny. That’s not how it goes with me—there’s never a ‘should’ or ‘have to’.”

I looked up to find those goddamn blue eyes, heated and fiery, staring down at me already.

“It’ll always be an ‘I want’ when you’re with me, love.”

Blood rushed to my face, my heart rate doubling over.

Those blue eyes dropped to my mouth, and I took that as invitation to gaze at his. Full, pink lips surrounded by close-shaven, brown sugar stubble. Those lips turned upwards as he let out a breathy chuckle.

“I haven’t done this for a while, Sunny.”

I laughed this time. “Nice line, Riordan. Do you use it on every girl you bring up here?” I teased, moving my hip slightly so it rested on a nearby orange cushion.

“You’re the only other person who knows about this place.”

“You don’t need to try and ‘woo’ me with a secret hideout, Chance. I appreciate everything you’ve done today just the same,” I replied.

“Why is it so hard for you to believe that I’m not lying to you?”

I blanched at the question.

“C’mon, Sunny baby. Don’t play dumb with me. I know how smart you are.” He raised an eyebrow. “You know how bad I want you, Sunny. And believe it or not, my dear, I’m not dumbeither. I’m nowhere near stupid enough to ruin whatever this is going to be over something as trivial as not telling the truth.”

I gaped—stared at him like a fish out of water, my mouth opening and closing like one.

From curiosity to devilish in an instant, a smirk fell over his face like the fading sun. “Let me show you.”

“W-what?” I managed to get out.

“Let me show you, my dear Sunny baby.” A soft, tender kiss landed on my temple before he was moving. “Just how badly I want you.”

The ute tray creaked a little as he moved, but I barely heard it. Chance crawled down to where my legs were splayed out over the blanket. In one quick motion, he scooped both of them up and positioned himself underneath. And when he dropped my legs?

My legs fell straight open.

With where he was kneeling, they couldn’t not. My mouth simultaneously went dry and became full of saliva at the same time. “W-what’re you doing?”

“Shhhh,” he cooed, running his calloused hands all over my bare thighs. “Justenjoy.”

With a quick flick of a couple of fingers, my shorts were undone with the zipper loose. Chance dragged them down my legs and tossed them to the back corner of the tray.

“The farther off you, the better.” He grinned wickedly, shamelessly running his eyes over my exposed bright red, lace thong.

My body turned to mush, warm in anticipation of what those eyes were burning with desire for. “That apply for this too?” I mumbled, tucking my thumbs under the thin waistband of my underwear.
