“I’m not sure what’s going on, but just in case you need to know, I don’t know where that envelope came from. I found it when I returned to my desk. I’ve been waiting outside for you to finish up with Mr. Atler.” She moves out of the doorway and into the hallway as I close the door softly on her, trying my hardest not to be rude. There’s no doubt from anyone in this room that another bomb is about to drop.
“Sebastian, what is that?” The panic in Devin’s voice is apparent.
My hands shake as I stare down at the envelope.
Fuck. What the hell is it going to be this time? I’m not sure Devin, or anyone for that matter, can take any more.
“Sebastian,” Devin says my name again. “What the hell is that?”
I take her hint and open the envelope slowly, removing the seal at the top. It feels like a lifetime before it’s open enough for me to reach inside. When I pull out a small folded piece of paper and open it, my jaw hits the floor.
“Holy fucking shit.”
