THIRTEEN

ABEL

“You coming to my game later?”I asked, sliding onto one of the barstools at the island.

“Hmmm, I don’t know,” Scarlett hummed while flipping my favorite cinnamon protein pancakes with her spatula.

Her hair was up in a ponytail that flowed down past her shoulders, and she wore bright little workout shorts that made her ass look… fuck. “Didn’t get the invite until right now. Kind of short notice if you ask me.”

It’d been almost a month since the night I told her I wanted us to try and be friends, and every day since she’d shown me more and more of her personality. These days, she didn’t shy away from making playful remarks or those smart-ass comments I’d catch her laughing under her breath about.

“Come,” I begged. “There’ll be other fans there watching, so you can bring Mae if you want. And you know Lea will be there too. They’ll have food trucks. You told me you love a food truck.” I was pulling out all the stops to try and convince her to come, but her poker-face expression wouldn’t budge. “Please, Red. I want you there.”

“Okay.” She gave in with a giant grin that made her eyes sparkle.

Those eyes. They got me every damn time.

I fucking hated that I had to leave her for three weeks soon.

Pulling out my phone from my pocket, I thumbed out a message to Aera to see about staying in the Malibu house while I was in town. Seeing as I paid for half the house, I doubted that she’d have an issue with it, but I felt the need to ask in case she wasn’t planning on staying at her condo in West Hollywood.

The last fucking thing I wanted right now was to spend three weeks trapped in a house with her.

Abel:I’ll be in town in a few days and I’m staying until the end of the month. Am I good to stay at the Malibu house?

Aera: Sure.I’ll let the housekeeper know you’re coming.

Aera:Planning on seeing me while you’re in town?

Abel:Not if I can avoid it.

Aera:Unlikely, but you’re welcome to try.

Typical Aera, always making sure I knew she was in charge. I would have to see her at some point, but I wasn’t fucking looking forward to it. Knowing her, she’d show up at the most inopportune time if I didn’t.

I shoved my phone back into my shorts and brushed off the thought of seeing her. Instead, I focused on something more important. The girl who was standing in front of me whisking up some more pancake mix and pouring it into the hot pan.

“You gave in too easily, Red. If you would’ve held out a little longer, I would’ve considered giving you a raise if it meant you coming to the game.”

“What! You should definitely still give me the raise,” she scoffed, flipping the last pancake over.

“Done.”

“I was kidding.”

“I wasn’t,” I said honestly.

At this rate, if she wanted a hundred million dollars, I’d probably give it to her without a single hesitation.

“You really want me to come that bad?”

In more ways than one.

I nodded my response.

Primarily due to the fact that my cock was rock hard from thinking about her coming and the other part being that if she kept prodding about why I wanted her there I was going to spill my feelings for her right here over breakfast.

“I’ll be there.” She smiled, handing me a stack of pancakes.
