I knew my dad was upset about Harrison's antics in the tabloids, but I didn't know he was angry enough to threaten his inheritance.

“I have nothing better to do now other than meddle in the love lives of others. It’s become my newest form of entertainment. Isn’t nearly as good as eating pussy, but it’ssomething to pass the time.” He nonchalantly lifts his shoulders in a shrug.

“Harrison.” My eyes involuntarily roll in response to my brother's blunt demeanor.

“We can talk about it at length later. For now, I need you to look over those papers, but before you do, I need to tell you one thing.”

“Go on,” I urge him to continue.

“Remember when I said that this was a risk?”

“Yes…”

“Well, even if you’re not willing to take the risk, you don’t really have a choice because the board is on to you.”

“What? How?”

“One of the board members, Harold, is going to the C.R.E.E. conference next week.”

I tilt my head back, looking up at the ceiling. “I already know where this is going…”

“Apparently, he called earlier this week, hoping to catch you for a call about the trip…”

“And Nina told him I was at the conference because that’s what my calendar said.” I pinch the bridge of my nose, the slight pain distracting me from my racing thoughts. “He knew that was bullshit the minute she said it.”

“Exactly.” Harrison releases a prolonged sigh and nonchalantly slides his hands into his pockets. “Now the board thinks you took your assistant on a week-long fuck-fest.”

“You’ve got tobe kidding me.”

“How’s that going, by the way? I noticed her desk was cleared out. Trouble in paradise?”

I shake my head in a dismissive manner. “You can meddle in everyone’s love life but mine.”

“Fine,” he grumbles. “Oh, I also forgot to tell you there’s a board meeting in an hour.”

“I never got a calendar invite…”

“I know. They’re planning to trap you. They don’t want you to have time to cover your tracks before they corner you.”

“Fuck me,” I groan.

“Their only problem is that they assumed I’d be more loyal to this company than my own brother.” Harrison nods down to the papers. “Read it.”

Looking down at the papers, I can't help but smile as I slowly scan through the highlighted section. “Do you really think this will work?”

“If it doesn’t, and I end up losing my inheritance, can I borrow some of yours?”

I let out a huffed laugh, rolling my eyes at him, then getting up from my chair. “First, let’s make sure Reid is on board. This decision has to be unanimous among the three of us.”

As I walk out of my office, I fumble in my pocket for my phone. After pulling it out, I dial Lyla's number and bring the phone to my ear. The ring echoes until she finally answers with a quick “Hi.”

Her voice, soft and soothing, instantly brings me comfort amidst stress.

“How soon can you get to the office?”

“Why do I feel like I’m walking into an ambush?” With my shoulders pulled back, I lead the way into the conference room, my brothers walking closely behind me.

“Hello to you too, Barrett,” Harold, a gray-haired man with a muscular build and an all-black suit, says with a crazed laugh.
