Jonathan interrupts and immediately starts offering to help me catch up. I cannot help but roll my eyes.

“I appreciate the offer, but I think your attention is going to be better suited if focused on your own proposal.” I turn back to my desk and open my client file. I can hear Mr. Castin laugh as he turns away. “Mr. Castin?”

“Yes?”

“Thank you for introducing me to the team. If it is ok with you, I would like to take this file home and get started on it.”

“Absolutely, we will see you tomorrow at eight.” He smiles.

“Absolutely. I am excited to be a part of this team. If I have any questions or concerns about this proposal, who would you like me to direct my questions to?”

“Just shoot me an email. I would be happy to help you get up to speed.”

I thank him and he walks out with me.

“Thank you so much for today, I am very excited to be on your team.”

“We are excited to have you. Give Theo hell for me, he definitely buried the lead with you.”

I smile as he holds the elevator door open for me. “I will.”

As I walk into the lobby, I pull out my phone to call Stan, but I hear my name being shouted. I look up and see Mia near the doors with a huge smile on her face.

“Congratulations, girl! Let's go celebrate!" She wraps her arms around me, giving me the biggest hug.

Chapter

Eight

Aria

Ms. Davidson had texted Mia when Mr. Castin escorted me to HR, so Mia immediately made reservations for us to celebrate. Of course, dinner was phenomenal. It was really nice to have someone to celebrate with. I wish Theo were home to celebrate with, but Mia was a great stand-in.

I look at the time, 8:45 p.m.

“Thank you so much for dinner. I need to head upstairs, but we need to do this again soon.” I hug her before she leaves.

I head upstairs and sit in the living room, knowing any minute now I'll be getting a call or text from Theo.

Like clockwork, the clock strikes nine, and my phone rings.

“Hey, Daddy.”

“How did it go today?” he asks immediately. I would have thought he would already know. He's close friends with the CEO who interviewed me today, and apparently, everyone’s assistants know each other and gossip.

“I didn't get the receptionist job,” I say, trying to hide the excitement in my voice.

“No?” he asks, somehow knowing.

“No, but I did get an internship position.” The excitement is barely contained.

“Congratulations, baby girl, I knew you could do it.”

“So you knew I graduated with honors and had my degree?”

“Salutatorian. You graduated salutatorian, don’t downplay that.”

“You did your homework on me!”What else does this man know?
