“Ok.” She smiles.
I wasnotready for that.
“Aria.”
“Daddy.”
“Are you ok?”
“Yeah, why wouldn't I be?” Now I am confused.
“Well, I did just inform you that your mom was dead.”
“I was wondering when that was going to happen.” I was not expecting this conversation to be so casual. I guess when she said she had no feelings on the matter, she meant it.
“What’s going on in your head?”
“I guess I'm relieved it's over.”
“What's over? The time with Garret and Sara?” I haven't told her much about their job, but I guess by their behavior, it was safe to assume that whatever happens in those rooms, theyreallyenjoy.
“She can't hurt us anymore. It's over.” I pull her in and kiss her forehead. “Kai said it before, I am the type who will sacrifice family to protect those I love.” Me. She is ok with everything that just happened, because it was her way of protecting me.
My heart warms at how much she cares about me. I cannot imagine loving anyone more than I love Aria right here in this moment.
“Is it wrong that I kind of want to celebrate?” Aria blushes.
“How would you like to do that?” I ask, willing to give her whatever she wants.
“It only feels right to pop some champagne.”
“I’ll grab some from the wine room.”
“We did also just had some new toys delivered.” Her playful smile tells me everything I need to know.
I may have lied earlier. I can't imagine loving her more than I do rightnow.
“I’ll meet you there. You know what I like.”
“Yes, Daddy.” She gets up, and I smack her ass before she gets too far.
Once Aria is out of sight, I walk to the wine cooler. Once inside, I pull out my phone and send a text.
Plan some vacation time for Aria.
Can this wait until the summer?
No
That important?
I sent a single picture in response.
You got it, man.
