He shrugged elegantly. "I know she feels something for me, but I want more." He smiled slightly. "I want to marry her."

Carefully putting the cup down before she ended up spilling tea on her priceless Oriental rug, she took a deep breath.

"Darling, that's wonderful news."

"It would be if I knew she was going to say yes."

Scooting forward on the chair, Elizabeth pinned him with her gaze. "Want some advice?"

"I would love some."

"You've already showed your hand. From what I know of that young woman, she's stubborn and independent. I trust your instinct and if it's telling you she has feelings for you, then you're on the right path. Give her a bit of space." A whimsical smiletouched her lips. "When your grandfather was wooing me, he declared his love on our second meeting and I brushed it aside, never realizing how much I hurt him."

"What did he do?" Dimitri asked in fascination.

"He treated me with the utmost courtesy and was so polite, I wanted to bash his head in. I ended up chasing after him."

Dimitri's brows lifted. "You're saying I should ignore her."

"No." She shook her head with a laugh. "That would be a mistake. Play it cool and confuse her. If she believes you're losing interest, she won't be able to bear it. Allow her to make the next move."

"For a lawyer, you're very quiet. I've never known you to be this at a loss for words. Are you coming down with something?"

Allison jolted slightly and tried to cover it by dipping the spoon into her soup. She had tried working and was unable to concentrate. Not to mention the fact that she kept looking at herwatch. He had not called. He could be busy, and he did not owe her any obligation.

"I have a lot on my mind."

"Honey, you dragged me away from my store where I was doing inventory," she rolled her eyes at the look her friend sent her. "Okay, fine. I hate doing fricking inventory and jumped at the chance to get away. The minute you called and asked me to join you for lunch, I dumped the entire thing on Marcia. Without a qualm. I have an hour to spare, so tell me what's got your panties in a bunch."

"I just had to get out of the office."

"Any particular reason?" Jessica stirred her soup and wondered if she should have gone for the steak. The soup du jour did not look appetizing.

"Lack of motivation."

Angling her head, Jessica stared at her. "You never did tell me how the tall, gorgeous Russian performed in bed."

"And I'm not going to."

Jessica's eyes brightened. "So, you did have sex with him!"

"Several times." She grinned at the disgusted look on her friend's face.

"Whatever happened to sharing?"

"When it comes to my personal business, I am like a clam."

"Bitch, that's so not true. You've always shared your pitiful love life with me in the past."

Picking up her water, she took a sip. "I might have decided to do things differently."

"Yeah right." Jessica eyed her for a minute. "For a woman who is now getting some, you don't appear to be too happy. Is the sex that lousy?"

"The sex is the best I ever had and even in my limited experience, I can speak with some authority."

"Then what?"
