I was so enraged, I was about to burn this motherfucking city down.

The moment her lies hit the internet, Blanche came to her senses. She retracted her vile accusation.

Smart move.

She was going down a slippery slope.

With me out of the picture, she focused her vitriolic campaign on Matthew.

The way she keeps layering preposterous accusation upon preposterous accusation, forced the PR team to revise Matthew’s attack strategy. Given this shitty day, no one would blame me for walking around with a chip on my shoulder, but I’d be lying to myself.

I have Lily Schuyler to blame for my surly mood.

I promised I’d text her to pick her up, but it’s a quarter past four and I haven’t.

I didn’t even respond to the text she sent me last night.

I must’ve reread that blatant invitation a hundred times.

As the day comes to an end, I have a big decision to make.

I pace the length of my office, both hands tucked inside my pants pockets.

Back and forth.

Back and forth.

Fuck.

I post myself in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. With my eyes lost in the clouds, I beg the big guy upstairs to put an end to my misery.

How the hell did you let this woman sneak up on me, God?

My body has a weird, visceral reaction whenever I’m near her.

I’m so obsessed with her, I’ve committed her delicate floral scent to memory. It’s so ingrained in me, I recalled it this morning as I jerked off twice—once in bed and again in the shower—in my attempt to exorcise this woman from my system but with zero success because I want her so damn much. I would’ve jerked off a third time, but I have an international company to run.

None of that changes the facts.

Her father remains Fisher Edgington.

Lily Schuyleris off-limits.

The only way to successfully resist temptation is to spend the least amount of time with said temptation.

I walk to my desk, snatch my phone off it, and send off a text.

Done.

Chapter 16

Lily

This morning, I was back at the University of Southern California.

Unlike yesterday’s event, today was devoted to visiting the campus, and spending more time with the teachers. Since it’s an intense and expensive program, the school wants to make sure we know what we’re getting into.

In the afternoon, I visited UCLA.
