With some less-than-subtle urging from Eliza—who was privy to the surprise—Sadie and Lucy found themselves front and center.

With a brief although less-than-subtle glance over her shoulder, Irene sent her bouquet flying straight at Sadie, who caught it with little effort.

Lucy squealed, hopping up and down in her excitement, wholly unprepared for the second bouquet Irene tossed next. It sailed into Lucy’s cheering arms, and she fumbled the poor crumpled flowers, flinging petals like confetti before finally clutching them to her chest. Her startled gaze darted to Irene, questioning if there had been some mistake.

Irene, a gorgeous vision in her ivory satin wedding gown, blew a kiss to both women before gesturing for them to turn around.

Bewildered, Lucy and Sadie turned in tandem to find Vick and Landon down on one knee before them, each holding up a ring.

Lucy gasped and gripped Sadie’s hand, and the two childhood friends exchanged a look of delight and disbelief as their youthful daydream came to fruition.

Blinking back blissful tears, Cassie caught Eliza’s eye, knowing she shared the same earnest hope that as their daughters grew up, they would forge a similar bond.

And that maybe, one day, the blessing of friendship and community they all savored in this moment would carry on in their children.
