“You know the tunnels?”
“I lived down there for about eighteen months,” he said. “I didn’t want to know the tunnels, but I was a runaway and that’s where we wound up.”
“Let me go with you.”
Maddox moved me away from the wall. “No. You don’t need to go. You’re compromised right now. I know you were a Ranger, but this isn’t like that at all. You’re emotionally invested, and that can make you do stupid things.”
My glare was powerful enough to drill a hole in his forehead. Still… “I hate that you’re right.”
“Mister Powers, you can come with me to the hospital with Jerrod,” Griffith said.
I looked at Jace’s lousy brother. “You’re not going to fight this. If you fight it, I leave you to your own damn devices. If you work with the ADA and agree to turn state’s evidence, I will pay for your lawyer.”
He was surprisingly compliant. “Yeah. I got it.”
“Smoke?”
“We’ll be on our way after I stop at my place to pick up some gear.”
