The sun was sinkingover the Pacific and I had never dreamed I’d be here. And certainly not sitting on a wall, finishing the last of the most perfect tacos I’d ever eaten, next to my boyfriend Nelson Powers.

It was all an insane dream.

“You ready for the red carpet tomorrow?”

The taco suddenly lodged in my throat. “God, I’m really going to be on the red carpet with you.”

“Yes, you are.”

Slowly, I wadded up the taco wrapper and considered him, sitting there looking incredibly sexy. “Are you sure you’re ready for this? I’ve never really been able to hide my gay. Mom and Dad weren’t shocked when I came out at thirteen. But you’re in the spotlight. You play a character who straight men aspire to be.”

“That’s good they aspire to be Xavier. He’s a good man, with a good heart, and he’s masculine without being toxic. Tender when he can. It’s everything I think I am, but just…with men. With you.”

“You are,” I whispered. “It confuses me sometimes. I’m just…a guy. I’m no one special.”

“Neither am I, Jace. I’m just a guy. I was born in Iceland, I served in the US Army. The only difference is that my job, my chosen profession, is in front of a camera and yours is off screen. I’m just a guy who happens to think that you’re handsome, adorable, and a lot of fun to be around. You liked writing with me. You like having dinner with me. You like going to movies and to museums and clubs with me.”

“I’m just wondering when you’re going to get bored with me.”

“The same time you get bored with me.”

I laughed. “I’ll never be bored of you.”

“There’s your answer.”

His lips were wet from the cold water he’d been drinking, and I couldn’t look away as he licked them. He saw me staring and leaned over and gave me a soft kiss. “I like you a whole bunch, Jace.”

God, this feeling was terrifying. It was so much more than a simplelike. Or even a complicated like. I was falling in love with Nelson Powers.
