“The phone,” I whispered, staring down at my miserable, dying self-manicure that tipped my fingers. I had done my best to clean it up for the day, but compared to the rest of my friends, I always looked slightly, well…unpolished.

“Gimme the phone,” Noah said, holding his hand out. I fished it out of my pocket and held it out to him. He shook his head and navigated through the screens. “Jace. Don’t let this happen. If you can’t make the payment, just use my card. I’m putting it on your account. We want to know where you are.” He looked up at me, and his eyes were earnest. “We worry about you.”

Blinking a few times, I nodded. “Thank you, Noah. I know you do. I just got a lot to deal with.”

“We can help you deal with it.” Noah handed the phone back to me. “You’re up and running again. I set my card to back up for yours. You’ll be good for now. Jace—seriously. We all want to make sure you’re safe and happy, okay?” He clapped my on the shoulder.

Nodding, I tucked the phone back in my pocket. I wanted to tell him everything right then and there, but…it would probably ruin the night.

Instead, I crooked my finger and beckoned him closer. He did, and I whispered in his ear, “Nelson Powers.” Taking a step back to see the utter astonishment on his face, I grinned. “Text me.” And in the next instant I was gone, back up the stairs to where I’d left Nelson.

He was back at the table and had snagged us two new glasses from a waiter. Grabbing the other chair, I pulled it around so we were sitting right next to each other. “Abandoned the secret hall?”

Looking over at me, there was heat in his glance. “If we stayed in there, I doubt either of us would be able to control ourselves.”

“Who said I wanted to?”

He moaned, low in his chest, “That is playing with fire, Jace.”

“What if I want you to nail me against the wall?”

“What if I want the first time I touch you that way to be something you’ll always remember?”

First time? Did he really say that? He didn’t just want to fuck and flee? My confusion was, as always, on my face. He saw it and kissed my cheek. “I do want to pound you into the mattress, Jace, trust me on that.”

My phone pinged with a text and I jerked it out of my pocket, trying not to pay attention to the raging boner that had just popped up.

Noah: Austin has five bedrooms, a pull out couch in the living room and a pull out in the office. One is yours.

Noah: Austin is REALLY drunk, too.

Noah: I didn’t name names.

I swallowed and answered.

Jace: Thank you, N. I really appreciate that.

Noah: Just…don’t be shy about talking over my terrible exploits with your serious score here.

Jace: Did he walk?

Noah: He…uh, was out of practice and apparently reached completion before I even had his pants undone.

I bit my lip to keep from laughing. Noah did not have the best of luck when it came to dating and finding a partner.

Jace: Sorry, man.

Noah: **shrugging** What can you do?

“What’s funny?” Nelson asked.

“My friend Noah doesn’t have the best track record.”

“Like what?”

I looked at my watch. “We have about two hours before the party is over. I don’t know if that’s enough time.”

He chuckled, and it tripped through me, landing softly in my very eager balls.
