"I'll be working from home for the rest of the day," I told her, trying to sound professional despite the fact that Aries was practically radiating sexual energy beside me.
"Of course," Leslie replied with a barely contained smirk. “The day is practically over anyway.”
It was the wink at the end that had me rubbing at the back of my neck in embarrassment.
“Good night, Leslie,” Aries called to Leslie.
“Goodnight, Dr. Yerba. Have a good rest of your evening.”
I gave Leslie the side eye. She was being smart.
As we walked out of the hospital, I couldn't help but notice how Aries' presence affected me. My heart raced at his closeness, and I suddenly felt like a teenager again—that same girl who had watched him from the bleachers, dreaming of a moment just like this.
"My car or yours?" I asked as we reached the parking garage.
"I'll follow you," Aries replied, his voice deep and smooth. "That way we both have our cars in the morning."
The way he said it—with absolute certainty that he'd be spending the night—should have annoyed me. But instead, a thrill ran through me at his confidence. This man knew what he wanted, and right now, what he wanted was me.
The drive home was torturous. Every red light felt like an eternity as I checked my rearview mirror to see Aries' black truck behind me. My mind raced with anticipation, with questions about what we were doing, where this was going. I had spent years building walls, and they were crumbling faster than a group of five-year-olds playing Jenga.
I damn near jumped out of my skin when my phone rang through the car speakers. I looked at the screen and knew I couldn’t ignore my dad any longer.
“Hey, Daddy,” I spoke after hitting the button on my steering wheel.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were going to be on T.V.? I could have recorded it.”
I rolled my eyes. “Dad, it wasn’t that serious. It was a standard press conference.”
“Let me be happy that I saw my baby girl on my T.V. screen.”
I really didn’t have time for my dad. He’d go on and on if I let him.
“Dad, I still have a busy evening. Can I call you tomorrow?”
“Fine. I guess… go be a busy attorney.”
I laughed. If only he knew what I was really about to do. Nothing about my busy evening had anything to do with being an attorney. More like I was about to get my back blown the fuck out.
“Love you. Talk to you tomorrow.”
I hung up, feeling a little bad that I just lied to my dad, but he’ll be okay.
By the time I pulled onto my block, my nerves hit me again, and I didn’t know why because we’ve already spent a night together. For some reason, I felt like tonight would be different.
I pulled into my garage, and left the door open, just in case Aries wanted to pull in beside me. When I got out of my car, I noticed he settled for parking on the parking pad, on the opposite side of my car.
I watched as he got out of his car, enthralled by the power he possessed. It was intoxicating.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Because you look good as hell. I should be asking you what exactly it is that we’re doing, but all I really want to do is lead you inside and maybe take you up on your offer from Saturday night to lay me out on my kitchen counter.”
“We can definitely do both, but I nominate laying you out and eating your pussy first, then talking about us after, with the taste of you still on my lips.”
Well alright. I could get behind that.
“Dr. Aries Yerba, let me find out you’re one nasty ass muthafucka.”
